500E problems
hello,
I just bought a used 1992 Mercedes 500E from the authorized Mercedes dealer in Beirut,Lebanon. my car has done 75,000KM and looks clean inside out,it sounds great and drives great, lately I have been smelling engine oil burning and some black fumes from the exhaust also.the Oil pressure gauge shows max(3) when driving and drops just below (2) when idle and neutral which is normal as I understood, the Oil level in the dipstick is within limits also, the Engine Oil lamp in the instrument cluster goes out after starting. I am very much worried and hate to discover that my amazing 500E consumes engine oil and possibly require a costly engine overhaul.please advise as to this issue. thanks. |

black smoke are generally air / fuel mixture issues. burning oil would be more blue than black. check around the exhaust pipe. if it were really burning oil, you'll get some deposits around there..
