No Offense intended

If some rice burner A/M dealer was offering that 90 degree rig, I would have just hit the Forward or Back button. Since it was Koenig and they should know that it may be detrimental to the engine management system, they prolly would not offer it. It will not hurt to ask them for before and after test results to see if it is feasible and reasonable in light of the price that they are asking for the set up.

Has Carl "ballparked" a price yet?

What I meant by the lead thing is that your edited pics of a dual exhaust on your rig look like a copy of the newer MB above it. I think that those oval/rectangle sort of tips looks SLICK on that MB. Don't get me wrong - I am all for updating appearance and enhancing performance - I just think that we should strive for individuality that ranges somewhere between ExtremeE500 to a Purple one that I saw last week.

At the Northeast GTG, all attendees except one had the pretty much standard pipes peeking subtley out from under the rear bumper. If you go on ACTACK's site and look for the green 1992 500E pictured from the back, you will see a slick looking angled rear exhaust that looked like it came from the factory that way.

Tom

The "cosmetic re-direct" pipe will fit under the rear bumper-cover; however, the severe angle required (about 90 degrees) renders it unwise, in my opinion.

I have seen this done an a W210 (full Lorinser kit + dual exhaust). It looked good, but I cannot attest to its efficacy.

In case you were not aware, Carl Genberg (of BergWerks, in LA) is in the R&D phase of a (low boost) M119 blower, targetinga goal of 100 BHP + 100 lb-ft. torque increases.

I took no offense to your "lead, not follow" comment (Rangers lead the way!); however, I'm not sure I understand your point... All I want to accomplish, for now, is an update of my 500E's rear-end - since I'm having my entire rear bumper replaced (due to a tow-truck driver's damage to my old one). I thought it wise to take advantage of the window of down-time/shop-time to facilitate said goal.

The Koenig website had previously listed a supercharger for the W124 E500, but I see it has been removed. However, they still list one for the R129 5.0 liter at the same price (15,000 euros) and with the same power rating.

If anyone checks with them and finds an answer, let us know! How 'bout a group buy??

1) yes; $7K - $10K

2) to each, his/her own; personally, I think the tips I have selected are: tastefully plain (coming from one obsessed with subtlety/tactful, timeless style), visually unobtrusive, and aesthetically pleasing.

no one is forcing you (or anyone) to "follow my lead..."

...neither am I cheapening or discrediting the 500E/E500 heritage. after all, just look at Koenig's "pseudo-quad" offering and tell me how, exactly, that is any more "individuality-expressive" than my idea (!!!). intuitively obvious even to the most casual of observers, it is clear that one need not possess a PhD in thermodynamics/fluid mechanics to identify the problems with bending an exhaust-vent 90 degrees... simple and plain, manufacturers sell what the market will bear/what consumers demand. appearance-obsessed quad-exhaust seekers will buy that "rig;" I will NOT.

i pride myself on my attention to detail; in summary, I don't "slap crap" on my ride: i never have / i never will.

after all, I'm not building a Trans Am for the Cannonball Run...

Hi Dean!

You know I did not even look at the price of the supercharger.

LET ME DO A PRICE CHECK!

How much am I willing to pay to get from 0-60 now @ 5.9 or so to 0-62.1 @ 4.9 or so?

Is it 15 Thousand Big Bingo Bucks - Euros -no big dif.????

ENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGH!!

Do I care that it will increase the top end from the current 155 mph to warp 3?

NOT UNLESS I HAVE A DEATH WISH!

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest, what is my priority on getting anybody's supercharger crammed under my hood?

59

Lets get back to reasonably priced dual exhaust options. The floor is yours, Scott.

If I am not mistaken the angled exhaust from the car at the NE GTG is a Brabus piece, that particular car having a number of other Brabus parts on it also.

ACTACK does not have a website, as far as I can tell/find...

Innovative vs. duplicity

" to each, his/her own; personally, I think the tips I have selected are: tastefully plain (coming from one obsessed with subtlety/tactful, timeless style), visually unobtrusive, and aesthetically pleasing. "

Scott! If you look under the hood of your very own vehicle, you will easily understand what we have come to expect from you - All of the above that you mention AND the one extra word that comes to mind in your instance is the word: UNIQUE which is another way of saying innovative.

How many Benzes do you suppose are running around with a Carbon Fiber anything under their hood?

UNIQUE/INNOVATIVE

How many Benzes are using ITG filters?

UNIQUE/INNOVATIVE

How many Benzes that look like Toyotas-on-steroids are running around with oval chrome tipped dual exhausts?

YAWN

BTW - If I win this arguement, I get your hat (I need it more than you do anyway ;^)

ACTACKS site on the NE GTG:

http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=4033152&a=30360664&f=0

Go to pic # 13 and click on the pic twice to get largest size (Unfortunately, it is a side angle rear shot so it does not give the viewer an appreciative peek.)

Cat In The Hat

(...which hat? ha-ha...never!)

Tom:

I appreicate your penchant for healthy debate (it reminds me of my father's eggings-on at the dinner table, in my formulative years); however, I feel I should make it clear that I am not upset at you or anyone... just in case there are any misunderstandings amongst "lurkers" within this thread.

I'm still not convinced, though, that (left AND right side) dual or quad tips of ANY kind are "Toyota-eque," in any way/shape/form; they are rarely even seen! I like the way these look - even the M3 and M5 (GASP! a BMW compliment???!!!) look good, IMHO - though the round shape doesn't quite work for me... too run-of-the-mill... Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

Specifically, the tips on the Kleemann E50K look complementarily aggressive/muscle-car-ish, and worthy of the 500E. I like them: let's arm-wrestle or box over it! Seriously, though - I prefer the tips-in-question MUCH more over the "1970s-Fiat-Monza-esque" ones offered by Koenig-Specials (good LORD - did Miami Vice just win a season renewal contract???) Don Johnson just called: he needs his exhaust back, ASAP. Thaaaaaaaanks!

Re: ITG filters - RENNTech uses them in their airbox offering; out with the old/in with the new - K&N's are the day-glo of the 21st century, it would appear... life in the fast lane, etc...

The tips I have chosen are more trapezoidal/rectilinear than oval; I expessly DISLIKE Remus-esque/Everyman's 300E/dude-check-out-my-killer-new-EXHAUST applications (no offense to those whose boats those float/propel). Times change - and so do I.

The jury is still in deliberation. I may even go with a SINGLE tipped version of my original posting; ACTACK's image #13 reveals a good-looking side-angled approach - but I have only ever seen that on Brabus vehicles, before. My car is 90% RENNTech / 10% AMG, so I am looking for something more personalized. Mind you, I am not trying to "go the whole 9 + the 2 extra points," as Albert (eXtreme_E500) is - but I am 34 years old... and my tastes are decidedly different. Individuals like Al can pull off their over-the-top creations with flair (as he has undoubtedly done, having won the Benzsport Autofest 2002 "Best W124" award); however, I find myself increasingly "step-wise-and-settle-aged," to coin a phrase (as I have been known to do, on occasion).

Even if every mercedesshop.com/W124-036 fanatic was to brandish a Glock 30 in my face, screaming directives to the contrary, I would still go my own way (a la "Arnage-esque billet-grill," an eXtreme-E'-inspired decision)! PLACE YOUR MIND WHERE I CAN SEE IT! DO IT NOW!!! MOVE!!!

The hat remains on my head; your turn.

Drat no cat hat

ROTFLMAO!

It took me an hour to dream up the "flatter him and then box him with it scheme" leaving you the only out of denying that you were Innovative or unique to win the debate.

When I was half your current age, Dad bought me a 56 Desoto Adventurer Convertible (Hemi with Dual Quad carbs and dual exhausts built into the bottom of the twin fins where they met the bumper - It was a friggen boat sleeper that blew the doors off any chevy or ford with tri-power. It was the cat's meow look of 1961

The next Hot Rod was a brand new 1969 442 convertible with dual exhausts flared at the tips and built into the bottom of the chrome bumper. It was the cat's meow look of 1969

In 1993, a lawncare truck rear-ended my wife's '92 300E Sportline cracking the bumper and bending the rear muffler enough to require replacement. I put a REMUS on it. It was the cat's meow look of 1993.

As 2002 comes to a close and I am looking for the cat's meow look of the current time, those oval tipped jobbies just don't do it for me but as you said earlier "to each his own"

IF I were gonna have to chose from the three, it would be number two but there is no way that you are gonna get the second pipe not only around the enlarged gas tank but back up into the cut-out and still look "Factory installed" WELLLLLLL! actually, we know that there is least one way.
don johnson special -snicker

HOW ABOUT THE 70ies JAG E TYPE LOOK - run twin pipes down the middle under the wheel well and then angle them up - AHHHHHHHHH on second thought never mind cause your car may remind some observers that you think it is a Porsche

hehehe

Tom
BTW - My AA is a "Bay Girl" I showed her your red hat and asked her how cold it gets out there - She said that when it goes below 32 degrees, it gets in the news just like when it goes above 32 here, it gets in the news. - She also immediately recognized the Puma

Plato / close, but no Cohiba

...glad to see we're both in the same "holiday spirit" of things!

A-ha... so your plan didn't proceed entirely as planned? Welcome to my world: a place where things rarely do.

I'm curious... WTF (as we say in California) is an "AA" - besides a small battery that lasts about half of its life-expectancy
and/or a substance-abuse frogram for the single-malt-challenged?

When you say she "recognized the Puma," I assume you mean the brand - not MY hat, specifically... (I hope! I try to keep a low profile in my excesses).
I am known (by many in the Bay Area rave/dance scene) simply as "the Puma guy." Curious - but true. {light-show, here}

I'll leave the angled-tubes (especially SKYWARD) to the HIGH-ANGLE-HELL gun-bunnies in the U.S. Army Field Artillery; I prefer to "get horizontal" with my release...

I definitely DON'T miss the weather in your neck of the woods; I went from Hawaii to upstate New York, after high school,
and all I could think about was how much I took Paradise for granted...

Stay tuned; this is far from over...

PS - is my website visible on the East Coast, yet?

Fhat the wucks an AA?

You neanderthal you!

On the Right side here, we renamed our secretaries to Administrative Assistants back in the early eighties - do yous guys still call them secys over there on the Left side?

As for my plan - so much for Murphy's Law - if U ask me WTF that is, I am gonna wonder if you ever spent any time in upstate anywhere - talk about radical changes - Hawaii to upstate NY - Sounds to me like you coulda been a "service brat" goin with dad from Hickham to Rome AFB yes/no? If yes, we may have some mutual friends in ATC or the jockeys driving the nuke 8 bangers between Rome and Ramstein.

As for the hat - I am not sure what she recognized - Does the PUMA cat have a significance out there other than a supplier of E-codes?

OK, if you don't like the "Porsche look", which is mostly what you are driving anyway, how about twin tubes exiting directly behind the drive wheels with a 45 degree rake. I did that with an Avanti that I owned for a very short period of time.

Of course your website is visable here on the left side - Do U think we are Neanderthals with no tech over here or WTF?

Tom Slick

I've never had the good fortune of having an "Admin," as we abbreviate things out here in sunny Californicate; it must be nice.
As NCOs love to say, "I work for a living, Sir."

E-codes? Do Bosch headlamp vendors wear Puma out your way?

I asked about my website's visibility because I changed my DNS hosting (nameserver) data, 48 hours ago... and I was wondering if it had propagated across the Internet.

My NYC stint was my "doing time" investment in my future/pursuit of excellence/(fill in the cliche) at USMA/West Point. We may, indeed, know some of the same people...

Porting out the side (a-la-Roush Mustang) looks pretty Tom Slick; hmmm... maybe I should ask Bob Brady for undercarriage pictures of RENNTech's efforts...

Since I am not changing my domain name, I passed. Did I F/U?

No PUMA doesn't offer hats with their e-codes -is that what U asked

USMA/WP - dym- USMC/WP ? over

As your jpeg/gif editing skills are better than mine, could you show me what the side-whalers would look like along with a clear-deck-in-the-rear appearance.
