Question Questions for Benzmac...

If I am not mistaken, your 2.3-16v has a turbocharger on it...
Therefore, I have a few questions:

1. How much hp did you gain?
2. What psi pressure do you have?
3. Do you have any pics of your car?

Thanks in advance for your response,

Henry

After next week, we will start posting pics of the car. My first dyno session pulled around 350hp at the wheels. That calculates to about 411 at the engine given the 15% loss through the driveline. Now, that was the first pass with NO tuning.

Next week I am going back to the dyno to do some serious tuning. I will expect another 20 or so hp at the wheels.

I am running max of 1 bar of boost which is about 14.3 psi.

THE KEY TO BIG POWER IS A BIG INTERCOOLER. YOU WILL SEE WHAT I MEAN IN THE PICS.

Benzmac,

That is sick! 430Hp in a 190, that thing is going to be a rocket ship. How on earth do you plan on making sure the rear wheels hook up without burning them to smoke?

Can't wait to see the pics of this car, it must be a beast.

BENZMAC!!! Mad props to you!! That's awesome!! I can't wait to hear what the drag strip numbers are! Please don't make us wait too long!
I've got a few questions, though:
1. What kind of intake manifold did you use with the TEC III? Did you just modify the stock one to fit the 65lb injectors?
2. Where did you get ahold of an exhaust manifold? Did you make it yourself?? Could you please post some pics?!?
3. What kind of crank signal are you using with the TEC III? Does it work with the factory signal from the flywheel or is it something else?

Thanks so much, and again, congrats on your project. I hope I'll get the same result with mine!

Later!

If I have time, pics will be up tomorrow.

I had a friend help with the exhaust manifold fab. It is all custom. The intake is 50/50. It is half factory and 1/2 sheet metal custom.

The pickup for the TEC3 is a custom made trigger with mag sensor.

The intercooler is custom made from a GIANT intercooler from a front mount Grand National design.

Pics, pics, pics!!!

That's awesome! I can't wait to see the pics. I'm currently planning on custom making my exhaust manifold as well. It would be a huge help to see pics. This weekend I'm going to be working on my intake. I've fitted the new injectors to the stock manifold, and am going to put a butterfly valve in each runner instead of one big one. I'll post pics as soon as I get that done. I really hope it'll work out.
I had a stopover in the Atlanta airport last weekend on my way back from Italy. Unfortunately, it wasn't long enough to go and see your shop. I'd love to see your operation and some of your projects! Maybe I'll plan a trip down once my car is back on the road...

Later!

Benzmac! How are those pics coming along??
I've got a few questions about your fuel setup:
1. What kind of fuel pressure regulator did you use?
2. What pressure? Rising rate?
3. What's the duty cycle of your injectors at WOT at high RPMs?

Thanks!

Later!

I used an Aeromotive regulator with standard rate of rise. The base setting is 40PSI with the hose disconnected. The duty of my injectors has yet to be determined at WOT. I haven't been able to tune above 10psi due to a lack of dyno time. I just haven't had the time lately. I am just driving the car very conservatively.

What a coincidence! Before I posted the question, I had my eye on the Aeromotive 13109 regulator, which is made for turbos...
From your experience, is it harder to map an engine that has a rising fuel pressure as apposed to a fixed one (ie, port disconnected)?

Thanks!

Later,

PS: pics...

You should use a rising regulator that rises at a rate of 1:1. The reason is simple. You want the fuel pressure to stay constant. To do so, you raise the pressure equally to boost so you get the same spray from the injectors. Then, you only have to manipulate pulse width to add or subtract fuel. The fuel pressure stays linear to boost.

They will come. I have them at the shop and I do all of the MercedesShop stuff from home usually. So, if I get caught up, I will photoshop the pics for size and post them.
