Looks nice Jim!! Have you thought of raising the boost to something like 8 PSI? The engine should be able to handle it... Yeah, there's never enough power.
That's a nice torque curve--nice and flat! How much faster is it than a stock 16V? Do you have any numbers? Later!

Hey Jim ,
Interesting thread !!!!!!! I want to supercharge my 190 2.6 5-Speed with the same SLK unit that UR using. Is it possible ta get more boost out of these ones ? What MODS have to be done to the stock engine to handle the XTRA ponies ? I think an additional 40 to 50 HP gain would not require MODDIN the short block but I would like to see if 80 to 100 HP gain is possible, any thoughts ? Thanx in advance BTW, I will be going ta VIR in the fall for an event, maybe we can hook up email drmspce@aol.com |

Daniel ... A solid 6psi of boost provides a lot of power (I fixed a slipping belt problem; it was only running 4psi of boost above 4K during the dyno run). I don't have any numbers on how much faster but the seat of my pants says it is a LOT faster. Robby has driven it and he was very impressed with the feeling of power that just pulls in all gears.
"E" .... (At least a first name is nice to include as a signature) I did not make any modifications to the internals of the engine. I did convert to a digital engine management injection system to control the fuel map and the ignition curve. I replaced the original SLK pulley with a smaller pulley to increase the boost pressure. I doubt if you could drive the supercharger much faster than I am so it may not have the capacity for a 2.6L engine. You can check the graphs on the Eaton web site. Are you referring to Tri-O-Rama at VIR in the fall? Did you go the Summit Point a couple of weeks ago? I will be there for part of Tri-O-Rama but I am not sure which car I will bring (or is running). For all ... My 16-valve engine is sick again. It had regular gas in it (my dumb mistake pushing the wrong button in the rain) and I loaned it to my son (another dumb mistake) and now it blows a lot of smoke. I am hoping for a blown head gasket since a compression check shows that it still has good compression. I won't know the extent of the problem until I pull the head off. After all of the hours that I have put into this engine, I am not looking forward to doing it again. I'll keep you posted in a new thread when I learn something.

Man, oh man. That sucks Jim!! And just when you got it back up again!! I hate dumb mistakes! And I sure have made my share of them...That brings to mind the time when I was changing my timing chain and my helper didn't have a tight hold on the wire attached to the chain. I ended up going fishing for the timing chain for the next couple hours. I was afraid I'd have to pull the pan, but luckily I didn't!
Good luck!

Sorry ta hear about your woes, hope you get things in order again soon. Your car sounds like a blast to drive !!!!!!
I am refering to the Tri O Rama in the fall at VIR. I did go to Summit Point a few weeks back and had a great time there. I really enjoyed the track and doin some laps with another 190 16 V car and a 560 SL. Hope ta see ya there at VIR !!!!!!!! James |
