evo II body kit
I don't know what happened to the first post, but here goes. Which is more appropriate for the add-on evo II body kit, 2.3-16 or the 190e sportline? I thought the 2.3-16 would be the logical choice but seems to be gaining collectible status here in the US. What would addition of the body kit do to the value of the car?
I didn't like the harsh ride of the sportline I was in compared to the 2.3-16 that I drove, but seems to be a more economical choice as a daily driver, which is my intent here. Racing is not part of my plan. I welcome all comments. |

if you plan on keeping the car forever, go deep, man.
if you're looking at a 16v and want to keep the resale value up, i'd recommend against irreversible mods. of course, it all depends on who you wind up selling the car to: if you're selling it to a serious afficionado/collector, they're probably going to want it bone stock and as clean as possible. if you're going to sell it to some kid with a whack of cash and NO idea about these things, it doesn't really matter what you do., you could probably snow him. it's pretty well documented in this and other forums that *I* prefer my cars as stock as possible. which is not to say i won't modify them, I'm just not going to start cutting sheetmetal and drilling holes for looks. with all of my mods, form follows function. that being said, if i were to heavily mod my 16v, i'd be going for the EvoI look.

I on the other hand can't stop modding!
Here are your advantages. Sportline, assuming your talking about the 2.6l, quicker ratio steering, wider wheels/tires, different lower a-arms, sportline badging, sportline seats (like the 16 valve) smaller diamater steering wheel, sportline shift knob, leather interior, rear headrests and carbon fiber trim. Depending upon the color combo, the black sportlines have red highlights, similar to the euro advantgarde option. Pretty much bullet proof with the drivetrain and easy to maintain. I would stay away from the EVOII kit, as it is too much work to install and would limit your resale to a select few. Even I would not buy it, too ugly for me. A 16 vavle body kit would be a nice update though, thats the route I am going. If you were to purchase a 16 valve, your looking at a older car that is going to require more maintaince and the parts are more expensive, but you get the performance options of a high reving 16 valve 4 cyl, dog leg five speed, sportline seats, body kit and extra guages. All this car really needs are some suspension tweaks and some wheels. Just my thoughts. |

I doubt there would be much noticable difference, I would go with the 500E front bar, that is what most people do.
