16 Valve Cams

While I had my engine apart, Daniel asked me to measure the cam lobes so he could compare them to the cam in his European engine. I measured the cams and was surprised that they were different. I thought that they were the same. Anyway, the intakes, total width (lobe and circle) 40.0mm; the narrowest diameter 30.0mm (10.0mm lift). The exhaust cam total width 38.7mm and the narrowest 29.7 (9.0mm lift).

Is this correct or do I have mis-matched cams?

From what I have read, the cams are supposed to be exactly the same intake and exhaust and are interchangable. The Euro does have different cams.

Yeah, that's really weird, Jim. My bottom end is european, but my cams are definately US-spec. Both of mine measure the same as your exhaust cam with 9mm of lift. Where did your intake cam come from I wonder, and where can I get my hands on one?!? That's kinda odd because the GTC cams that bekkers sell with 276 degree duration only have 10.2mm of lift, so that cam is pretty aggressive. Does anyone have any info on that cam? Jim's part numbers were:
-Intake cam 102 25 and on the back 7008
- Exhaust cam 102 25 and on the back LYD 1

Jim, please measure Rob's cams and let us know what you find out.

Any info would be really cool!

Later!

I have now taken out my 2.3-16V head. My car is an original 185hp european version without any cats. reason for doing this is head gasket was leaking oil from the timing chain well.

about my cams i've checked and they had these designations:

exhaust 102 25 end marks --- 6767
intake 102 25 end marks --- 6765

have checked with others and not sure if this cams are oiginally 2.3-16 cams or 2.5-16 cams as previous owner had swapped out the original cams.

I've checked with the EPC and part numbers for 2.3-16V and 2.5-16V are not the same.

Had a look at the pistons of the 16v. Sure could have been better if they had used pent head pistons. The 16V pistons are really flat and cut out for the valves were minimal. IMHO these pistons really looked like they belong to a Honda Accord SOHC 2.0 engine rather than a performance machine.

If the pistons were more aggressive, mid range and overall responce of the engine would be better.
