OK, now that I've hooked you... Anyway, this is most likely old news, but a perusal of the site at:

leads to some interesting hits. If you select "Great Britain" at the bottom, and then search on 500E in all countries, you get a lot of interesting hits, among which is an M119 engine for sale for about $2K. Some amazingly cheap cars also.

Whenever I cruise one of these German sites, I never cease to be amazed at how cheap some of the cars are. In discussing this with friends, we always seem to agree that a) there is some kind of more significant (than here in the US) social stigma, particularly in Germany, but somewhat in other parts of Europe, about driving an older car, particularly in this sort of "executive" category, and b) the cars have quite possibly had the p*ss run out of them.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.
