Stummala -

Are you the guy with the beautiful 560 SEC with the M119 engine conversion?

Should you ever decide to sell that car, remember I'm first in line to buy it.

Hey Subman. Do you know what ratios are in the TE's? My wagon seems pretty darn snappy.

I did not know the 98 e430 was a W124. I thought the 124 chassis was only through 95?

W124's are: 1992-1993 400E and 1994-1995 E420.

W210's are: 1997 E420 and 1998-2002 E430.

The engine from 1992-1995 and 1997 is a 4.2 liter M119 engine. There was no E420 in 1996. The 400E engine was always 4.2 liters, not 4.0.

From 1998-on the engine is an M113.

Ok, so let me ask this again. Is there a bolt in 3.07 for my 98 e430? (W210)

There is a table on BergWerks website that should tell if there is a diff. for your car. It may be avail. but the difficult thing is finding the part.

I checked with them, and they wanted my car for 2-3 weeks, and 3K. Since I don't live in the same state much less region, that is not going to happen.

I have had on problems at all with the new diff, the only downside that I have expierenced is the decrease in gas milage. In mixed city highway (mostly highway) I get anywhere from 17 to 19 mpg. The worst I have gotten so far is high 15 or low 16 (not to sure on the 15).

Anyway seems like there is no turing back for you, if you are doing it with in the next few days I image you have all the parts and just need to install them.

Have fun man it is like having a new car, you will feel the difference with in the first time you go to 20 mph.

Yeah, my diff came in few days ago. Was pulled from a 400SE I believe, 55k miles on it. Have not had time to do the swap yet. I'm excited about it. My car (1994 E420) is really starting to feel like my own now if you know what I mean. So far i've only done a few cosmetic changes (17" wheels, painted lowers, slight tint) which have really made the car appear much more aggressive. I'll be posting some pics soon.

Thanks for your article on the swap and the added info. I was reading your analysis of the 18's on your website, do you think there would be rubbing problems even if the car wasnt lowered?

I think there would be minor rubbing but only on the body cladding under brakeing, that is only unill it wears away (as mine did).
Not to mention if you live in an area with bad roads then you WILL bend a wheel eventualy, as I have since I moved to Houston. Houston has the worst roads I have ever driven on.

I am looking at changing the rear diff. in a C43 to a 3.46 ratio. Stock is 3.07

Anyone know what current +1998 car has a 3.46 rear diff.?

And any ideas on how hard it is to reprogram the Transmission computer to work with the new gear set?

Thanks.

Jeff

Thumbs up

I just did the 2.82 diff swap also last week and want to thank you for posting your info . It was very helpful . It took me around
10 hours to complete as I had to run around and purchase a transmission jack. I got tired of trying to hold up the 90 lb diff.!!!
I did not have a lift to use for the car but backed the car up onto my car trailer and worked from below. i am real thrilled at the
performance now and could actually tell the difference as I drove the car off of the trailer!!! It is a good thing I installed the 225/50/zr16 Yokos on the back as the stock tires would have gone up in smoke and be destroyed by now! this thing really flys
now and with the Magnaflow muffler it sounds wild.
Again thanks for sharing your detailed info. I did the whole swap for less than $600 . A picture of my car can be seen at http://userpages.itis.com/eurocars/400E.JPG

Can a differential swap be done in an 87 300E to get better acceleration??
I read that the 86 and 87 300E's were the quicker ones, is this true??

The 86 & 87 300E's have a 3.07 diff.

You can swap for a 3.27 diff. If you're interested, I have one for sale.
