Exhaust backpressure question

I bought a universal muffler for my car and it turns out its a single in/dual out, while my stock muffler is a dual in/dual out. Will it create too much backpressure if i make a y-pipe to the universal muffler? Who makes a universal dual in/dual out muffler?

The amount of backpressure id dependant on many factors including flow capacity. If the single in is 2.25" & the old dual in was 1.65" then you possibly could get just as much flow from the single in muffler.

The single universal muffler is 2.5" in and the dual stock muffler is 2" in. Any idea if this would be a problem?

The cross section of the single 2.5" pipe is 4.909 sq.in.
The cross section of each 2.0 pipe is 3.142 sq.in., so the dual 2.0's (total) cross section is 6.284 sq.in.

A single 2.5 pipe is only 78% of the dual 2.0's - a 22% restriction.

The single pipe diameter closest to your dual 2.0" pipes would be a 2.828" diameter, but exhaust pipe doesn't come in that size - a 2.75" pipe would be a little more restrictive than your dual 2.0 pipes (I've never seen that size, either), and a 3" pipe would be a little less restrictive than your dual 2.0" pipes.

Flowmaster makes a very low restriction, but pretty loud 2-in, 2-out (their Series 50 for SUV's) for about $100.

If you're willing to use a dual 2.0 into 3" "Y" pipe, you can use the less loud Flowmaster Series 50 Delta Flow muffler. It has dual outs, so it would look more or less stock from the rear. That's the one I plan to use with my 5.6 engine.
