E60

48k would buy you the E60 posted recently on this forum and would most likely cover the DOT conversion as well. Would suffer less depreciation over time with its' more limited production.

I know which one I'd rather have.

Hatch and Sons has a 92 500E with 28k mi. for $43k I think. I think I could also purchase a warranty w/ no deductible if I service my car with them.

http://www.hatchandsons.com/pages/sales/late_model/2027

I have seen and sat in this car before. It was absolutely perfect at least interior/exterior wise.

browzing the Hatch and Sons website...they appear to have some top condition low low mile vehicles- -

if these 500e/e500 are one owner, full records, top mech and cosmetic condition, warranty- - and you do your PPI, , it may be a great source to buy from them

...oh, the obligatory 500e/e500 prospective owner's test drive is mandatory....(naturally some are faster than others & one may appeal to you more vs. another)

seems quite reasonable (to me) if truely $43k buys you an as-new mint condition super low mile 500e/e500......

fwiw- I wouldn't touch a Gray-market super-tuned E60 supercar at any price (too much mech/tech/parts unavailability downside risk).....after its federalized, I would liken it to be a neutered stallion (aka a "used to be")

good luck

the red 93 is the second most expensive. I think it was $37.5k? Not too sure.

The 1994 according to them is one of the few hi milers they ever bought back from anybody. For that one they want $34.5k.

The headlights need new lenses, however the body was perfect and the interior was unbelievable for a car with 70k mi. on it.

I remember when I was there looking at three 500E's and all their other beauties. I felt like I was in a dream world.

I agree with Fad - someone will buy it, someone just like the owner, for whom money is not an issue. Likewise, that person will not care too much about warranty or no warranty, because, again, money will not be an issue.

Having been in that position many years ago, I know the thinking. Twenty-five years ago, a friend asked me if I wanted to buy his Ferrari. I said no, that I was in the market for a 6.3. He brought it over to my house, left it in the driveway, and I bought it a day later.

Sounds like that was the 80's.

For me, if I were going to spend that kind on $$, there are many other cars that would be on my short list.

Craig,

I had to seriously consider other vehicles before I made my comment earlier "If I had the means and the car was in very good condition I would buy it".

I honestly can't think of any other cars I would rather have for $46K. The next car I want to purchase currently costs $79K and I know it will be a while before I can afford that one.

What would be on your short list at that price?

When I bought my '94, I was also considering the following:

C43
W210 E320
E39 540i
Audi S4
Porsche Boxster

I have never regretted my decision. IMHO, the 500E/E500 offered the most complete package for the pricepoint. A good deal of my friends and family thought I'd lost my mind and couldn't understand why I didn't opt for a newer vehicle. The more time they spend in the car, however, the more they begin to understand why this car is so special.

Still, to the non-enthusiast, the intangible greatness of the car isn't enough to justify owning it over the other excellent automotive masterpieces on the above list. I admit, I am taken by this car. But I'm sure any fellow owner can attest to the unique mental illness that I suffer from.

I can easily guess what car are you thinking about, but remember to add to your figure the cost for the KLEEMANN Kompressor to make it one of it's kind...

Make that two cars I want to buy......the new E55 is definitely on my list.

In my earlier post I was actually referring to the Ferrari 512TR Testarossa, it was my other dream car when I was a kid. I should point out that $79K is on the low side, a good US example costs around $100K ..........like I said it will be a long while before I get that one.

Yesterday I talked to a guy who told me that he went to Rusnak in Pasadena and they told him that the '94 E500 is "off the market".
