Hello...

How can i find out the features of a car from the VIN? if it has Limited slip, etc? Is there any other way? will Mercedes Benz USA provide me with that information?

thanks!

I own a black/black '96 C36 with 33K miles. What year/color is your C36?

With a complete VIN number you can pull a service history on a given vehicle at any MB dealership. Then they will have to have someone decode the printout to tell you what all the service codes really mean. But you can get that info with the VIN at any MB dealership. It will tell you everytime that car has come in for a maintenance/repair related issue and what was done.

Hope this helps...Lee

hi everyone..thanks for the replies.
Ljadja...
i am looking at an artic white/black interior 1995 C36. Loaded, Mercedes CD, Phone, lo-jack, i think it has ASR because the yellow triangle lights up when i punch the excelerator. The car only has 38,800 miles and still a little over a year left on the factory warranty. According the Carfax, it has a clean title. I bargained him down to $31,000. is that a good deal? I also got a deal of $33,600 from a MB Starmark pre-owned 1995 C36 42K miles. Which is the better deal? thanks for any advice...

ps. i love the way these cars drive!! so agile and quick...

I won't comment on prices. Look at Edmund's or Kelly's Blue Book on the net. The C36 is a great buy. My car has been fairly reliable and if the ones you are looking at are still under warranty you shouldn't worry that much. No major problems in my car. My major gripe is the horrible 4 speed auto transmission. I haven't driven a C43 but it won't embarrass a C36 in a drag race. Every magazine article I have read so far has the C43 about the same or slower to the 1/4 mile than the C36. A C43 should be more responsive due to their flatter torque curve. I have no traction control in my car. It does have enough power to do a good burnout without having to put bleach on the tires!!! 155mph top speed is for real. I tested mine all the way up to an indicated 160mph. Tachometer was touching redline mark. I don't know about that top speed governor! I installed 16" wheels for city driving. If the roads are bad where you live you will eventually get tired of fixing/replacing wheels and tires. A C36/43 is as close as you will get to an M3 with all the quality and reliability of a Mercedes.
