I have indeed experienced the temperature dependant power on my 500E. I am wondering if there is anything to be gained by modifying the fan system
Peter, congrats on the new car!

Re your aux fan question, check out my web page (yellow house), Menu #16. It a simple mod that will cool your engine significantly. Also check Menu #15, on the use of Water Wetter.

Doing both will lower the operating temperature significantly!
Hope this helps.

Hi peter Welcome. Congrats on your new E. You know from here on out its going to know in your book as the E project ha ha.
Trust me I know about the hot running engines. Its a very good Idea At your mileage to Bring it to the dealer. Have an new timing chains and updated rials installed. 500E/E500 Suffer at about 100K 4-5 degrees of timing chain stretch. As forbeing a Mercedes Factory Tech. I ve alot of 119 motors at a 100K+ start having clattering and rattle noises in the timing chain system.
Not to try to scare you. But its cheap insurance to have it done if the records dont show it. Also On my 1993 500E I design a aux fan piggback harness hooks directly inline to your OEM hanress alot of 500E owners have purchased them already and having not to look down at the tmep guage everytime you get into traffic situations.
Well take care and have fun
