I wanted to get my new c230 in a 5 speed but every dealer I talked to said impossible so I just have the auto. I know that renntech does this conversion, but it costs 9 grand just for the parts and thats a little too expeniseve. Does anyone know a place where it is done or how easy it is, etc, etc...
thanks for any info
cavan

cavkid,

As it goes in street rodding....
Anything can be done with enough time, inititive and money but not necessarily all of each!!
Good luck
There are probably parts available in Europe to succeed in the conversion. Try Bekkers in GA....Bekkers.com.

SLK230's 5-speed manual might fit perfectly, but again, as Tobias MB mentioned, anything can be done with time, money.....

Anyways, have great fun with your car....

We have just finished our first conversion on a C280 to a 5 speed for our next generation of race cars. It was a difficult task for nothing was a bolt on part.We had to modify clutch pedals as well as the shifter rods and the driveshaft. We used all 190e parts because of cost and availablity.
Hope this helps.

Hey RC imports, I have actually been talking to you about this and coilovers in email, remember. Finally found this site, thanks for the info, how did the conversion go? If you where to do it would it be pretty costly.
thanks

It went ok but it dosen't look like a factory job when you have it on the lift. I forgot to mention we had to modify/make a crossmember. I have been looking into a salvage yard in europe for used euro parts for they made some in europe and this would make a much better conversion.

a friend of mine actually drove in my car, euro version in a stick in Europe (it was a taxi!). He said it was very nice and fast, boy did that piss me off. Why can't mercedes just let people get sticks. I know there isn't a big want for them, but they should just let anyone who wants one be able too. Or at least my car, I mean they have the same engine in the slk which is a stick. I am thinking, would this mean I could someday find a crashed stick slk and grab the parts and convert it fairly easy (easier then your project)? I have a pic on my screen actually of my car in a stick, just so I can drive myself crazy, oh well.
thanks
cavan
