Just saw Motortrend TV test M5. They did 0-60 in 4.7sec. Hm.....I wonder.....that means M5 is the new King of the Sports Sedan???

I think the consensus is that a M5's best run will be 0.1 seconds faster to60 than an E55s.
However, and a big however, it is the M5s best run. The M5 has a lot of variability depending upon conditions and how it is started. For the average run, or under wet conditions at all, the E55 is faster. And forget about 5-60mph (which are slower than 0-60mph times given the clutch isn't dropped at 4,000rpm) and 30-70mph times where the E55 is faster both when the M5 does and doesn't shift down. Overall, the M5 will still be viewed as the performance oriented car, with the E55 having other virtues, despite some clear performance advantages. |

I used to think M5 as you do, too....but after seeing a 2000 M5 whipping F360(couple days ago), I am even more impress with the car(and I can tell you that guy in the M5 still need alot of practice on that car as he slipped the clutch too often).....E55 may be the best for both world(comfort/performance), but M5 will be more brutal.....think of Viper and C5 Vettes, E55 is more like the later.....
BTW, that F360 has sequential tranny(F1), not typical 6-speed.... Andy Kuo ------------------

Akry,
I have heard that the E46 M3 is faster than the M5. They have some pics if you havent seen it on bmwm5.com. It takes some styling cues from the M5. |

I just got back from my BMW dealers today, servicing my Mcoupe for 15000 miles service. I saw a silver M5 outside the dealer, which had been sold to a guy in SF. The best part is, the guy paid the dealer
$15000 extra over MSRP. The guy only want the car to be shipped to SF. So if the MSRP around 70000, he paid the dealer $around $85000. In addition, it was the sixth car. I was wondering the how crazy the guy about his new M5. He should love the car more than his wife. For u guys who order E55, Did you pay the dealer over the MSRP? I was just wondering. Is it worth it to pay that extra money? |

Hehe, actually, both BMW dealers and MB dealers are offering me M5s/E55s at prices LOWER than MSRP...
White '00 E55, fully loaded, every single option, with sliver/black interior..... $101,000 CDN, including taxes(17%)... Black M5, fully loaded, every single option, Luxury(or Exclusive)version(there's Sport and Exclusive). $112,000 CDN, including taxes(17%).... After Canadian Dollar - US Dollar coversion, the price offered by both BMW and MB is very low...almost wholesale price... Andy Kuo ------------------
