Well, Mercedes finally introduced the CLK55 AMG into the US at the Chicago Auto Show this week. Does anyone have any pictures from the show of it? The only one I've been able to find is a very small one on Car & Driver's web site.

One interesting thing I noticed is that the car pictured has AMG Aero II Monoblock wheels on it. The Euro CLK55 has the same AMG wheels as the CLK430. I wonder what the deal is...did they put the bigger and wider E55 wheels on the US CLK55?

Aren't those on CLK430 Aero Monoblocks??? I thought E55 has the Monoblock II(or soft-edge monoblock)?? Correct me if I am wrong....

I have never found a real name for the wheels that are on the CLK430 and SLK Sport. TireRack refers to them simply as "5-Spoke." They are not the original Aero though. The original Aero looks very similar to the Aero II monoblock that the C36/C43/E55 all come with.

I'm not sure you could fit the E55's tire/wheel combo to a CLK chassis without doing some 500E-esque fender work. After checking out a CLk430 up close I'd think the widest you could push it would be 235 (up from 225) and 265 (up from 245) section width. This isn't exactly a precise measurement but just eyeballing it from the ground it looked like things were pretty close to "full" in the CLK430 fittment. One thing is for sure...if the CLK55 is as mean as the E55 it could sure use the extra rubber!

Hope this helps...Lee
