Hi guys...
been meeting some people with either S4 or A6 2.7 Twin Turbos... very impressive. the fact that a $600 chip can unleash 300+ HP is pretty cool. i got beat by an S4 a little while back and now this dude with a chipped A6 2.7TT also beat me off the line. i dont get it....a little engine like that with 2 small turbos producing over 300HP (a pretty flat curve) and over 345 ft/lbs or torque!! why? there is no doubt that the AMG cars are so much more refined and better crafted engineered cars but i guess a car cant have everything. when i sit in an Audi, it doesnt come close to what it feels like to be in an AMG or MB for that matter... any feedback on AMG vs. 2.7TT performance? take care |

Getting more power from a turbo is easy, especially with the engine management systems of today's cars. However, it does come at a sacrifice/price. Retest the AMG vs S4 at 150K miles of using the "hot" chip and see what happens. Provided the Audi is still on any original engine parts that long... Tweaking up a turbo car for a race, speed event, occasional fun is one thing. Running it that way on a daily basis is another altogether. You could always put a squirt of NOS on your C36. Keep the amount of NOS to about 1/3 of your engine's output and you should be okay for occasional use. A simple 100HP NOS system could probably be "done" for under $1K and would make that car a true terror.
Hope this helps...Lee |

hi lee...
that makes sense. i guess a normally aspired engine will always have longer life. does that also mean the MB Compressor cars will experience the same fate? i am hearing about the next C class 3.2L Supercharged @ 320HP. will this car have less of a life than a normally aspired motor? |

I think you can count on MBZ to construct their boosted motors in the same robust fashion as the naturally aspirated cars. Forced induction is unquestionably tough on a motor, but if the manufacturer knows the amount of pressure up front than you can largely compensate. However, mess with compression ratios, boost pressures etc. and I'd think reliability/longevity will go down the tubes.

The problems with forced induction come when you exceed what the motor was designed for or push specs too far. I doubt the Kompressor motor in the C230K/SLK or the upcoming 320K AMG will suffer any kind of long term problems. However, if you took those same motors and ran more aggressive specs (boost, timing, fuel/air, etc) they might. I'm sure the S4 will do quite well if you don't hot-rod the bejezus out of it. Your naturally aspirated engine could be tweaked up some but it would suffer longterm. Doing it for occasional use is no big deal, doing it day-in day-out will have its price. That is partially why the tuners are so damn expensive. To rebuild a car or part of a car to be MUCH faster yet still retain the legendary MB longevity takes more than a chip, K&N, and rear muffler.
My pair of cents...Lee |

The Audi RS4 is coming in June, one of my friends is on the order list, only 300 will be imported to Switzerland... That will be a hell of a car, will tell ya my impressions in June
He now has an S4 340HP and used to have an RS2 380HP (yaaahoooooo) but the RS2 gave up at 102K KM (king of the road!) ![]() ------------------ ------------------------------------- WEB Site : http://www.adamou.dpn.ch A.S.C. 1999 ------------------------------------- |

i just read about the latest stage 2 upgrade for this audi 2.7biturbo engine.
it includes air filter, chip and cat back. rated at 320hp!!! 360 torque!! the whole upgrade is less than $2000! 14.5 psi!! how much stress can this have on the motor? what could the long term effects be? i guess i am still waiting for Mercedes to come out with something that isnt in the $70-80K range of the E55. is the C55 going to ever come out? (probably not, it'll just canabilize sales of the E55) take care |

Rather than wait on the C55 I might go for the CLK55 or even pick up a 98 C43 and put a Lorinser supercharger on it. With a blower that car would easily be a match for the bigger motored (or tweaked turbo) cars. That gets into factory vs tuner/tuned but...the economics and availability of the blown C43 vs the C/CLK55 is hard to ignore.
Just an idea...Lee |
