Earlier in the year you posted an item saying that an 18 inch staggered wheel setup would be 245/40/18 front, 275/18/35 rear.

This is also the OEM for the E55, did you realise this? or did the calculations just lead to the figures.

I have the chance to buy some nice "slightly used" Lorinser rims, the owner says they can be adjusted to any offset as Lorinser has an adjustable "plate", is this true?. How about wheel bolts, use the old ones?

One for Michael- I know you are in the NYC area, do you think the 18 inch rims and 35 sectional tires are too low for NY? I don't want to damage the rims.

David,
I had always heard that the W129 Sport would retrofit on a 500E. Since the E55 uses those same sizes it would also be true. How much is coincidence of that being used is open to interpretation. I just double checked the math and that size does almost perfectly match the 500E's OEM size.

I can't really say on the Lorinser "offset adjustment" but I would certainly want to call a Lorinser dealer about that before I bought the wheels. Do not use the old wheel bolts or you could risk damaging the brakes. The lug bolts really should be matched specifically to your offset/setup to ensure correct/safe use. Yet another reason to contact a Lorinser dealer. Get the dealer's input on rim fittment and you may also want to get the lugs from him as well.

(not to step on your toes Michael) I've seen plenty of 18" AMG rims bent coming into dealerships. Since EVERYONE who has run 17" tires seems to love them I might want to try that route instead. Either 245/45/17's on all four corners or 245/45/17 up front with 275/40/17 in back. A tire with a rim protector bar will help keep curb rash away from the high $$$ rims as well.

Hope this helps...Lee

David-
The staggered wheel set up is the way to go in dry weather. The wider wheels have traction problems in wet/snow conditions.
The first thing I noticed on my E55 was the clearance from the front wheels to the fender. Can't even get my hand in there!!
The stiffer suspension my come into play in this case. I'm in NY too, and I don't have any problems with the ride height.
Handling will be greatly improved.
The most important thing to verify is the offset and clearances before mounting the wheels.
Good Luck
Gary
