The first pic is from 1994 Mercedes Brochure. Second is from Road Report Magazine(1992 issue), and the third one is from a Chinese Car Magazine.

I hate those american headlights. They are so ugly... Can anyone explain me why they are not similar with the euro ones ?

Adamou,
US spec and Euro spec lights have different pattern on the lenses. US spec headlights put more light toward centre of the road. Euro spec lights put more light on towards the side of the road(to luminate the side lines, for better Autobahn lighting). I think a well aim headlight shouldn't cause any glare at all, even with Euro lights. Simply put the light toward the centre(in order to cut down glare?? Hm..) only cut down the efficience of the headlight and when out-of-aim, they will still blind upcoming traffic. Andy Kuo ------------------

Adamou if you ask me it's probably more of an industry marketing thing. The US spec headlights are very common across a wide range of US vehicles and were widely available to the US consumer. Basically it was really hard to find halogen bulbs in the beginning of the W124 era here in the US. Mercedes did the smart thing. As soon as the bulbs were readily available they switched to euro style.
