well, yes and no.

yes you can put a 24v head on your 12v block,,,,but you will end up spending a bunch on replacing the pistons for the appropriate ones with 4 valve reliefs in them,,,,,

the you'll need to change the timing chain and all sprockets/rails, inorder to druve the dual camshafts etc etc.

Basically all you would end up re-using from the 12v engine is the bare block the crank and the rods.

You'd be much better off just buying a 24v motor if that's the route you want to go.

I have a really nice AMG 3.6 C36 motor sitting on a stand in my shop

190e head

ok i have a major question from what i have heard a m104 block is the same as a m103 block well almost the same. what i am wondering is if i can swap my 12v head and slap a 24v head from the m104 on it. I know i would have to replace the timing stuff and manifolds but can it be done?
thanx

Question Really ? ?

I am just curious, but how would you get the M104 head on an M103 block?

The M104 cylinder head is about 5-7mm wider than that of the M103. The holes for the head bolts are different as well. I guess qwith any amount of $$$ you could do anything you really wanted.

The most feasible option is to just buy a M104 engine ! ! ! !

A little late, but Pat is right, won't work. You need to look at these side by side to see the light, I know Pat has and he has investigated this question before.

whoops,,,I stand corrected.

Looking at them, I never noticed a difference in the block width,,,,,but then again, I never looked at them opened up sitting next to each other.
