I know this may seem a bit out of the norm, but I'm wondering what kind of performance parts are available for the 98 E300DT? Chips for the engine and tranny, Air Intakes, mass flow air sensors, etc... The inline 6 is pretty fast for a diesel, with duel overhead cams and 4 valves per cyl and all.

I've never heard of any but the classic tweaks of increasing displacement via bore/stroke increase would probably work. Nitrous oxide would also work I'd imagine but again, never seen it done in person.

Hope this helps...Lee

Don't get me wrong, I'm a diesel fan. Had a '96 E300d, and I'm sure the turbo made it better, but the only way to get POWER from a diesel, is to replace it with a gas engine.

Adding displacement to a diesel engine in and of itself will not add power. What it will do is draw in more air allowing you to increase the amount of fuel injected into the combustion chamber without causing damage. You can actually raise the amount of fuel injected into the chamber of the engine you have and it will provide more power, but without enough air to go with it, this will be EXTREMETLY detrimental to engine health.

I know nothing about the chemistry involved with Nitrous and diesel. It may not be a compatible situation.

I suggest that you love your E class diesel as it is and from a power standpoint, remember that you have at least double the horsepower and performance of the 123 and 126 diesels.

Enjoy,

Yeah, it's pretty fast as is, and being so chipped controlled and the turbo with an intercooler, I thought that there maybe a lot of performance parts out there as there are for the rice rockets. I think what I like best isn't the 174HP @ 4400RPM but he 244ft-lb of torque @ 1600 - 3000 RPM I'm told that it has from the factory specs. It'll drill you to your seat. I, like others, want a little more power.
