Has anyone been able to test drive a 2000 CL500? I saw one at our local dealer but it was already sold. As a matter of fact, here in Silicon Valley the next 2-3 years allocation is sold already. The only ones to come on the market are at 20-40k over sticker.

Does anyone know of a dealer willing to sell one at sticker? I'd like to get a Silver/Black one NOW! Thanks.

Here in BC. I believe you can get it exactly at MSRP if not cheaper. I talked my uncle into ordering one which will be delivered early next year for 2000 CDN less than the MSRP + Stereo. But Indeed, the car has very high demand (We got this deal because the manager promised me a good deal with my next purchase when I purchase my boy).

Happy Motoring,

ET

Thanks ET, but I'm in the USA. I have a feeling there would be a problem with warranty/import issues if I were to purchase the car out of he country.

Hopefully someone here in the US will know of a silver/black that's available at sticker

Duuuude (aka: mbdude) :

Got a feeling if you were quoted 2-3 year's allocation wait, then your only bet would be to *buy* someone's contract. At that, you may pay even more for the vehicle -- sad, but twisted truth. Back in the mid-80's when the Testarossa was a hot item, my friend put a $10k down payment on one for an expected 1-yr delivery. About 2-months later he sold his contract for $15k -- not too bad.

Anyways, if buying *new*, you may have a problem buying out-of-state as our Golden state of California is the exception in the 49-state "legal" program. BTW, it's been awhile since I've purchesed a new car. Are all cars now supposed to be 50-state legal, or is California still an exception?

Good luck!

Brian

Thanks for your reply. Actually, most new cars are now 50 state cars (I think). AFIK the MB's are all 50 state. It's too costly to make one model just for our craazy state!

If the only way I can get the car is to buy a contract, then I guess I won't be buying one. I have a big problem paying over and above sticker. Oh well...

Hi Dude,

U are very welcome. BTW, another thing u can do is to phone as many dealer as u can find and leave ur contact infos just in case someone pass his/her contract. It just might work.

Just my $0.02

Are you *stuck* on brand-new? Just for grins, I went to www.autotader.com and searched for MY2000 CL500 -- came up with quite a few entries. You might want to check it out (if you haven't already).

Good luck!

Thanks for the tip on autotrader. Only thing is these people want outrageous markups on the cars - some are $125k and up!

The only way I would be interested in the car is at sticker. It's just the principle of the matter.

The 2000 allocation for Canada and US are all spoken for. 2001s are taking order now, but almost full, too. Expect at least 12-18 months wait time. If you gonna get MSRP, you may have to wait even longer. However, some dealer will sell one at or lower than MSRP....

Like ET said, shop around. Sometimes, medium size(yet good reputation) dealer might have more luck getting one
