yesterday,
me in my 1995 C36 vs. probably a '98 or '99 540i Auto-sport (i didnt see the driver shift gears and it had the sport package)
The 540 got a head start and i still caught up and beat it! kind of cool considering my C36 isnt the 5 spd version and the 540 got a quick jump on me. i didnt expect the 540 to try to race me.

just wanted to share this story...
take care..

hi noah...
no..i still got my white C36...its being given to my mom soon since a few months ago, her 1984 300SD got hit by a truck and its finally gone! 230,000+miles!! so, i have been asking around on this site for car advice and options. i still dont know what to get. a 1998 C43, a 1998 CLK320 (which i can modify with the Kleeman Supercharger) or a 1999/2000 CLK430. my concern is that in a year or 2 the CLK430 might not be considered fast anymore. i already know that the CLK430 is NOT as fast as your C43. any advice?

take care..

Congrats on the crusifiction of the Bimwad. The E39 540i's are impressive performers. I've taken a one or two myself in the C36 but its pretty close. (500E just rapes em) As for ricers, Stangs, and such they are good practice but you sort of feel like a bully for doing it. The M3 crowd is sort of pot-luck. Some of them seem to be able to come pretty close 0-60, some seem to just not do nearly as well (guessing those are the auto's or poorly driven manuals), but almost all of them fall back as speeds get progressively higher. Still, a very worthy adversary in the M3. The new one will probably spank the C36's severely but until then...

As for the "what next's"...a hard choice. A C43 will be a bit more flexible but not a whole lot faster overall (if any). The CLK320 is more of a mildly sporty commuter/tourer than anything to go bimwad hunting. (even with a supercharger) If you are going to go with supercharging pick up a into year (price point) CLK430 and supercharge it. That would be a formidable package. You can supercharge the C43 but the intro cost is higher. Actually, if you want to go Viper hunting and have $30K sitting around. Just have the C36 twin turbo'd. 560+HP, butt-load of torque, 0-60 in the low 4's, 1/4 in the low 12's. The 30K does get you a new Renntech tranny, top notch materials, and a dyno tested engine. If you got the bucks its a helluva package. For about $60K out the door (30K for the car, 30K for the mods) you have something that can dance with just about anything out there and still be a benz.

Hope this helps...Lee

If you got some dough to burn, I won't mind recommend you take a looke at Audi S4 or the upcoming BMW M3. An Audi S4 with Stage III upgrade should pump out about 400hp, 0-60 in high 4 or low 5. 1/4 mile in about 12.1 +/- .3 sec.

lee, akry, noah, et and others...thanks for the input.
ET, i hope you spank some more yr 2000 and earlier M3s.

Lee, i thought a CLK with the kleeman supercharger (rated at 314 HP/ 325+ torque) would be a great performer no? it should beat a C43 or CLK430 stock (according to the numbers).

Akry, how about the Audi A6 2.7T stage 2, ECU chip and Tiptronic chip? (i can not ever go back to a manual trans.) from what i am hearing, this set up pushes out 320+ HP and 330+ ft/lbs torque and the Tip chip makes the 5 spd tiptronic shift very aggressively and nicely when going up against Manuals. the reason why i ask is because the i feel the S4's body style is quite dated and the A6 is only 100 lbs. more in weight (aluminum frame).

thanks all!!

If you need the extra room, the 2.7T is a MUST. Any of the turbo-charged Audi can perform very well with Stage II or III. I think A6 2.7T is alot more heavier(more than 100lb, I think it's somewhere between 250-300lb), but it will made a very good family sedan....

Hi guys,

I will! BTW, I have just heard from a friend that a friend of his is getting an E55 and a 360. And this guy already has a 993TT and an ML55. Apparantly he was impressed by the torque of the Merc V8. He have also placed an order to AMG Japan for wide body kits. I will be very interested to see how the car turn out (This guy has a long history of modifing his cars, his TT is said to be only able to run on Racing fuel now).

I have personally seen him put an VR6+ Turbo into a VW Beetle which gunned down a few slightly modified 993 C4s in local drag.
Wish we all have extra dough to burn like that.

Happy motoring,

ET

Any turbo car usually has lots of room for power upgrades. Don't know how well the rest of the drivetrain would cope with the S4 on stage II or III steroids though. Still, certainly an option to consider. No doubt the manual should be able to deal with the torque but I doubt the auto could deal with a stage III motor. Not to mention the 6-speed would probably be a better match for the no doubt peakier stage III motor. Of course, that is just a guess....will have to drive a modified one before final judgement is passed. Anyone know of a good S4 available?

j/k......Lee

Here it goes....

If you got $50,000 British Pound to burn, then place your order on Audi RS4 RIGHT NOW.

RS4
2.7 Bi-Turbo
380hp/6100rpm-7000rpm
440Nm(roughly 310-330 lb-ft)/2500rpm-6000rpm
6-speed ONLY, synchronized all gears
Top Speed - 250km/h electronically limited
0-100km/h - 4.9 sec
0-200km/h - 17.0 sec

More info at http://www.audiworld.com/model/rs4.html

As for mods for S4s

Stage I = Chip and K&N Filter
300hp/310lb-ft

Stage II = Stage I + CatBack
330hp/345-360lb-ft

Stage III = Stage II + Larger Turbo/Intercooler, Wastegate
400hp/385-390lb-ft

S4 Stage III can do 0-60 in 4.5-4.9 sec, 1/4 mile in 12.1-12.5 sec.

No engine mods need to be done, however, it's adviced to have new gasket in, and brake upgrade at the same time....

For Tiptronic S4s, there are Tiptronic reprogramed chips avaiable, which will change the shift pattern, give more aggressive shifts.
