Has anyone found a really good replacement for the OEM exhaust system.
The only options seem to be Brabus, RENNTech or Remus. All pretty pricey. Some more so than others. Has anyone tried to fabricate a system using Borla components? My mechanic seems to believe there is some HP gains to be had with the RENNTech, I really want something that sounds just a bit more serious... I still envy the sound of a really nicely setup 5 liter Mustang...(I just don't think I could drive one everyday) ------------------ Bryan Harter 92 500E Smoke Silver |

Borla.com was one of the first places I looked when I started thinking about a new exhaust. I didn't see anything on the website about Mercedes cars. I will give them a call.

Hi Brian,
I can understand why you would want to change the exhaust on your 500, but IMHO it's neither practical nor cost effective to do. The 500E is so well engineered that changing the exhaust system alone would probably yield very little gain. The exhaust system was not engineered on its own, it was designed to work with the engine. And given the amount of money Mercedes has put into researching automobile manufacturing (more money than any of us could probably imagine, not to mention 114 years worth of time). Finding JUST an exhaust system to gain extra ponies is a waste of time. If you want to go to RENNTech to get a decent exhaust system, be ready to shell out the $$$ because a RENNTech exhaust will do little for you unless you bolt it to a RENNTech 6.0L V-8. You might be able to get the car to sound a little more agressive, but if your mechanic told you that there is HP to be gained simply by bolting on a RENNTech exhaust, he's sadly mistaken. Don't forget, MB and Porsche specifically engineered the 500E to drive fast, do it with class and be covered by a factory warranty. Something they've accomplished very well. Several of MB's top men (or so I've been told) say that the super sedans they've been most impressed with have been the 300SEL 6.3 and the 500E. The 2.3-16/2.5-16, C36, C43 and E55 were mentioned, but not in the same breath nor with the same reverence as the 6.3 and the 500. Besides, wasting Mustangs with a 500 is too easy and a waste of gas. But it IS fun. ------------------ Cheers!
