COld air intake W201 190e

ANyone seen a good souce for a cold air intake system for a w201? I would really like to get rid of the big old air filter element and filter box and get a cold air intake that straightens out and possible pushes more air. they seem to be a dime a dozen for the japanese cars, any one making one for the baby benz? Even if there was not a huge benefit it would sure be nice to look at, better than the huse black box that is there now. May be some nice poliched aluminum tubing that goes directly in to my big bore throttle body i just put on for some extra power, II'll take anything I can get in my wife's 2.6 190E!

why does everyone ghetto rig cold air intakes for benzes, they already have cold air intake. If you want to do something really cleaver, you can do it with all benz part numbers and come off the cis and go to a benz part, then to a hose, go to the fender and get outside air but that costs 2$$ probably. If you are really interested ill get the numbers.

Don,t expect any measurable gains from a different air intake system on your 190.
If you want to improve the look, I could suggest to have the big black filter cover chromed.

You can do what 2phast did and use a obx ford focus intake.

I have Jay's intake on my 2.3 8V (on the M102, anything helps ) and there was a noticable increase in acceleration, albeit with more sound from the engine bay. The stock air cleaner does dampen sound as well.

The Jay's intake is really a short ram air as it is located in the engine bay. This only provide slight increase in HP with a lot of noise. The reason is that the temperature in the engine bay is very hot, especially in the summer. For true cold air intake(CAI), the air filter should be located outside the engine bay to extract the cold dense air. I have the AEM CAI in my Acura and it provides an increase of about 10 HP to the wheel. Most CAI's are catered for the Japanese imports because this is where the majority of interests are. You can check with AEM or INJEN for your car, but I don't think they make it because of little demand I find it hard to mod my MB because of that reason also. Renntech is really the only mod maker for MB but it just doesn't give the value for your money

serious thats all hot air intake right after the radiator. Benz suck air from infront of the radiator, I if you really want cold air intake mount ducts in the bumper to bring air up to the CIS system. Plus K&Ns in mercedes dont do as well except for electronic fuel injected cars, CIS, put in a mercedes filter.

An aftermarket air intake isn't going to turn a W201 into a DTM racer, but it is a low cost, effect way to get a bump in performance. Personal choice I guess.

My filter is shielded and the open end is right up against the OE opening, so while driving, cold air flows in from the grill, through the opening and directly into the air filter.

There is also no way to do a true cold air system, as there is no way to mount a air filter in the bumper and really no way to route tubing up to the tb.

Jays intake provides much the same performance increase as mine but his uses a open element air filter and thus is prone to sucking in more hot air than mine. Easy fix though, just use a filter with a heat shield.

I would not say there was a large increase in performance but enough to be noticable. There was also really no increase in intake noise.

I'd like to see a Cold Air Intake using a 190D 2.5 Turbo fender!

Regards,

Don
