I hope this not too off topic, but are there any similarities in the engines of the Porsche 928 S4 and GTS models, and the 500e/e500 models ? Just thought that with all the Porsche / MB work on the e500's, and given the 4valve and similar power of the two cars there may be some other similarities. Just curious as an aquaintance just picked up a pristine 1994 Porsche 928 GTS in Vancouver. I had never seen one of these particular models before. Got me wondering...

I'm a big 928 fan...my bro has a 1980 928S Euro...it's a grey-market car with 300 bhp out of a 3.5 liter motor. Has a 3 speed MBZ autobox that does nothing for the car's off-the-line acceleration, but the car flies at 50+mph. Touche on the off-topic ramble.

No motor commonality whatsoever. However, I've heard lots of patter about 500E's sporting 928 suspension bits, but I've not confirmed any.

Both autobahn burners fer sure...one of my most memorable rides ever was in my 70 year old atty's 928S4... he threw me the keys and told me to drive it like it was meant to be driven (no lie, and at the time I was 24ish and drove a 5.0 )...'nuff said.

Well, as previously mentioned, the 500E engine is 100% M-B. It is exactly the same as the engine found in the 500SL save for the Bosch fuel injection system. The 500E uses a different model.

As for the suspension, i'm not sure that Porsche used any Porsche parts on it. Porsche DID design and perform the modifications to the standard 124 chassis required to accept the 129 drivetrain, but it is unclear if Porsche spec parts were used.
