A friend of mine once told me..."you can show me better than you can tell me..."

So, I'm showing you. This isn't super fast but hey...the governor kicked in. I wonder what my S500 Coupe's true top speed is?

Needless to say, taking a pic of the cluster with one hand while guiding with the other was a little dangerous. And to think I was gonna try to turn off the flash with that one hand...

So guys, how do I go past the speed limiter? (maybe you shouldn't tell me....)

Also...what do you guys think a cop would do if he was speed trapping on the side of the road and saw me blur by...would he just finish his coffee?

Ooops...just noticed this was the hot rod forum...not sure if my car qualifies since it is a mass produced model. Although it technically has a 500E engine :-D

I don't think you have to worry about posting in this site, any Hot Rod related questions and / or comments is what its all about.

Let me just say, your S500 looks very nice. The picture of the dash is pretty cool too! Although at 30 degrees? You must have had dry roads for awhile?

Funny, how many cars out there would read 14 MPG (pictures gauge) at 140 mph?

BTW, you guys are pretty brave taking your hands off the wheel at those speeds and snapping pictures, I don't think I would do it even though the 500E is rock solid at 150. I guess I just need to do some more testing?

I thought that the S-class series and the CL's are limited to 155 mph not 139. you have a great car, and it looks great too. That takes guts, but in a mercedes it should be 'safe" because every Benz is a high speed rocket.

well I definitely felt the limiter kick in. It cruised to 139 smoothly so I know it could go faster. It could be my 19" wheels throwing off the speedometer? Just a thought...

Chris,

Very nice picture; it is not that dangerous taking a picture whilst driving straight on with a speed like that...

There is a web-site filled with all kind of different cars and gauges trying to go as flat-out as possible; it is a nice site to look at (there are gauges reading 300km/h+).

http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/studebaker/396/

My gauges can be found on page 2 (picture 26) of Class 5 (200-250hp) and on page 2 (picture 19) of the Diesel Class.

take a look at the site, you might enjoy it and send your picture in...it is a nice one...

greetingz,

Blackmercedes;

You have done some high speed running my friend. I think that those 19 inch rims won't throw off the speedo, becasue they are generally as large as the oem wheel and tire together. Not sure though.

If you know where to achieve high speeds, it can be done with safety. Blakcmercedes; and ribomedical know the spots as well. I only know one part where one can stretch thier cars legs. It must be a rush.

I prefer places on the highway where that ends with a long two lane sweeping merge to decellerate, But you always gotta be on the lookout. I live in a sort of country area and I know all the hang outs, I thought. Not to long ago I was buzzing along and and encountered some light traffic and one guy was swerving and driving like an idiot, so i layed back and waited for my exit that was only a couple miles ahead. AND WHAM the V1 goes solid, a cop was hiding on top of a bridge with a laser Man was I glad that idiot was in front of me or it would have been a three digit encounter for sure. So the moral of the story be prepared for anything!

WOW

Hey,

I hit 130 in my car going down the NTTA - North Texas Tollway, and the car could have kept going - since I have no limiter - it felt real solid and composed, but the pavement wasn't very good - too rutty so I slowed down - the cross-drilled rotors really helped to haul the car down from triple digit speeds. Amen to Mercedes engineering. They're real autobahn burners.

What should your top speed be. Where did you get your computer mods done, maybe it can be done for a 300E. I like your C-Class the best (next to the AMG models)

120 mph in Agrons 300E (1989) The car performed great, the ride was like silk. Agron's car is really sharp.

135mph in a Nissan 240SX fully modified
115-135mph from SF to LA on a weekday with 2 friends. It took about 3 hours with lunch stop at Mc Donalds. You can't even hear the horn beeping when, driving this fast.
