W124-036: how to remove rear headrests (???)

Anyone...?

A search has yielded zero hits/results: these are the last items to be dyed - and I *MUST* remove them! Please help!

Thanks, in advance,

it doesn't show it in the cd manual?

I wish I could be of more assistance here...

I know mine have a release, but they are different than your car I think.

According to the EPC blow-up of the rear seats...there are just 2 screws holding the chrome rods of the headrest in the spring loaded housing. It looks as if you have to take the seat backs off to get under the shelf to get at that area. Take out those 2 screws and it should slide right out as a whole unit. (hehe, I said unit !!)

Do you have a FAX number?...this doesn't show much by way of disassembling but it shows all the parts back there.

I had to do this whilst dismantling my E500 last year, and it was an absolute pain in the ass!

To get to the headrest release, I had to take out the fuel tank and then locate the mechanism under the parcel shelf.
This was partly because my headrests were stuck in an upright position, so I'd be surprised if you needed to remove the fuel tank to get them out under normal circumstances.

Cheers,
Bryn.

Thank you, Jim!

I hope this *DOESN'T* involve removing my gas tank!

; )

Kind regards,

Gas tank removal not too bad

I removed the tank in my 400E and replaced it with the 23 gal tank of a 500E some years back to increase my range per tank. I hate having to refuel midweek and the large tank lets me fill up on the weekend and last till the next weekend

assumptions

1) the tank was on E (and you were not)

2) you are not a smoker

Cool Tru Dat!

:p
How are you going to get the dash dyed. I'd like to awap interiors with someone who has the really light cream color interior in their 500E. I have the palamino, but I think there is one lighter than that. The hard part to me would be swapping the dash out.

my new dash...

...will be carbon-fiber.

PS - removing the dash is a relative no-brainer: it takes 30-45 minutes.
