Thinking about buying a 500E...need some advice
Sold my house, have some $$, and currently own a 560SL. However, I saw a nice 1993 500E, 83,000 miles. What should I watch out for, how much do these go for, etc...
I'd use this car as a daily driver...is that appropriate for a 500E? How difficult are the maintenance issues. Thank you. |

service history and maintence are must....don't let high mileage fool you this car is a great daily driver...just read what owners say |

Is there someone on this board who can point Richard to an appropriate shop in the Alexandria, Virginia area that could do a proper PPI?
Richard, type in each of the following words and do searches with "500e" as another of your search terms: wiring harness; power steering pump; nitrogen cell; thunk; PPI; timing chain; racka racka; oil tubes; hot. If you are thorough, this will take you HOURS. But, it will be worth it and you will learn a ton (and see how many devoted 500E owners post here). -- John p.s. Lastly, please know that the '92 and '93 500E had a horrendous stereo setup which is very expensive to make right. This is a reason to buy a '94 (which has a tad less power, but has a slightly updated appearance). Only the '92 can be bored out to become a 6.0 liter monster. So consider that, too. p.p.s. I drive my 89k miles '92 every day. No problemo -- in fact it is a delight beyond my wildest dreams. I can't believe it costs less than a new Honda Accord. |
