Sure there were, in Europe anyway. The E500 Limited was available in '95, I assure you.

The E500 was manufactured through January of 1995 and sold as 95 models the year before.

The shop foreman @ MB North Houston may have been trying to flatter me, but he said back in '94 when the C36 came out in Germany a C36 vs 500E top speed test was done and the 2.91 geared C36 beat the 500E without the 155mph governers at around 176mph!! My meager 2.91 geared '96 C36 walks V8 fools on the freeway all the time so I believe it kinda? 1/4 mile a 500e would rip me a new one. I'm just talking about steamrolling at high speed. HEHE

Yep, sounds like that mechanic was blowing smoke somewhere. The C36 would need another 50 - 100 hp to do that kind of speed. Even then, it would take the car a long time to get there.
