Hi,

Please advise how can i remove the catalytic convertor on my W203. I understand there 2 sensors front and back. If removed, will it affect the ECU ? Do i need to sent my ECU for re-programming or is there another way to bypass the sensors?
Any help is appreciated!

Your car has 4 cats. You could only remove 2 of them then relocate the o2 sensors to the remaining cats. IF you do this any other way, your car will not run correctly again.

I would think twice about removing them. They are expensive as hell to replace should you need to pass emmissions and get a new set.

Could you also advise me if changing the normal cats to Hi-flow cats would make any significant difference and will it affect the sensors too? Which brand of hi-flow cats suit this car and where can i get them?

I'm not sure on a w203 but someone did it to a w202 c230 and ti did affect the o2 sensor..it kept tripping the CE light.

i can only see 1 cat? where are the other 3 cats ?

Should I presume the cost would be $1000 per cat, plus labor?

Why would you want to remove the cats on such a new car? If it were a Chevy or an older car, I'd say chop away, but these cars are so fine-tuned with all these modern engine control systems, that I think that this would be more of an invitation for headaches than an improvement. Also, cats have improved quite a bit over older designs, so they don't reduce flow too much, I have also heard in some cases, that cars can actually lose power w/o them...most notably new cars with sophisticated computers.

I have read in this forum and other places that "performance" exhausts and/or modifications for MBs really don't make much difference at all except for sound because MB has them about as good as they can get.

Let me remind you that any sort of tampering with Catalytic converters is prohibited by law and would render your vehicle illegal for the street. Plus, you would be spewing unnecessary amounts of NOx, Hydrocarbons that really arent good for man nor environment.

As others have said, there really isnt any gain in removal of the cats and the car would have baffling and possibly incorrigible side-effects as well as loss of torque. If you want to do exhaust tuning on a MB you must realize that there is very little to gain as it is tuned out by the factory. If you want to tune your car; I would recommend perhaps a Kleeman supercharger or a more aggressive tire package.
