If I send out my current flywheel, who can machine an aluminum one for me?
I got Clutchnet.com from Maddogs Post, they seem to do clutchs maybe they'll make a flywheel for me.
Thanks

I can have your stock flywheel lightened if you would like. All work is done by a MB mechanic who races 16vlvs. I have it done for time and materials. It costs $100. Lead time is two to three weeks usually.

Mine is a little less than 14lbs and has 5k miles without any problems. I have the larger 2.6L Sportline with a solid mass flywheel.

call these guys up. They're SCCA racers. I just got one of their flywheels for my Ford smallblock for my GT40 project & I will probably talk to them about making me one for my C36 motor (if I ever get around to putting it into my 190 racecar).

here's the link: http://www.aluminumflywheels.com/flywheels.html

Alain-everyone,

I contacted them before. "If you have the money anything is possible" was there comment. I spoke to rep at show that just turned me flat down then I called. They were talking NRE and how many do you want made They typically run about $500-$800 dollars for the less popular imports. Bekkers carried them at one time, too.

I just got one for my 5.0 ford for less than 300 bucks,,,but the V8 ford is a popular unit.

7-800 for a flywheel doesn't surprise me at all. This is one of the reasons why that C36 motor is still on the engine stand and not in my racecar.
I'm also looking into a set of 12.5 to 13 to one pistons, and a custom intake for individual throttle bodies& a programmable management system, & maybe having a one pice front clip made for the car......since I won't run in ITE anymore but will be moving to SP. (I've even given some thought to having a tubreframe chassis made & just using an OEM roof skin & steel rear quarters)..........

but this is all at least a year away, as my GT40 body/chassis is scheduled to arrive from New Zealand in about two weeks.

Soooo many projects,,,,,,,,, so hard to keep the wife from finding the receipts.

Don't cut the car apart, just add some tubular reinforcements ala DTM style.

The flywheel in Gertrag tranny should be able to cross to something else. Someone just needs to take the time to compare it or have two different ones by luck.

Someone should check the E30 and E36 BMW tranny is similar to the W201 and W124 Sportline tranny.

You could try clutchnet but I find them hard to communicate with.

What flywheel do you have now?

The 16V flywheel is pretty light to start out with. I just finished modifying one so that the hall sensor pickups match a 6cylinder engine. You could easily shave metal off of the 16V flywheel and lighten it up. You don't want to go too light on the street though because it is hard to get around at slow speeds.

You could send me a 16V flywheel and I could lighten it, modify the ignition pickups, and balance it for you. Let me know if your interested.

The 16vlv cars, I have heard, have trouble on the street with a light flywheel. But that is mainly because the engine doesn't make much torque until it starts spinning up.

The MB str8 6 doesn't have this problem. I can engage the clutch off idle with no problem. The engine revs much quicker too, and much more responsive.
