500e front sway bar on a 16v

hello
I was wondering if anyone has put a 500e front sway bar on a
190e 16v?, If so will it just bolt up easily?, or would I
have to do some mods to fit it in?
Also what is the part number to get one here at Mercedesshop
thanks
Dave

You'll need to shorten the ends of the bar by a few inches, use the 500e bushings and trim some of the plastic shroud under the engine to clear the bar.

Here are the W201/W124 front bar widths:

2.3 22 mm (.87") front
16V 23.2 mm (.91") front
400E 26.5 mm Front
500E 28 mm Front

Full details on the diameters for all W124 bars are here, and they will fit the 201 when modified as described above. I'd get the LWB/limo bar because it is larger diameter, and probablyweighs less than, the 500E bar:

with the limo bar what brackets should be used? i know with the 500e bar you're supposed to use the 500e brackets and flip them around backwards, at least this is what i've been told. should w124 limo brackets be used? i'm planning on doing this mod soon.

thanks,

All 124's use the same brackets, including the 500E. I'm not sure if they are the same as the 201 brackets or not. You use one or the other & flip them over, probably need to ask Rik since he did this on his car...

I used the stock W201 brackets and two E60 specific bushings, the outer bushings were not available, so I spent a couple of hours with a dremel increasing the inside width of my stock bushings, a bit tricky as you don't want them too loose or too tight. No issues to date and no squeaks either.

Easy install for the front bar, check out www.2phast.com/190e there are pictures of the install but no captions yet!

I got my limo bar today. Its kinda wierd looking because it is thick at the end, and then gets really thin, and then gets really thick. I will tell you what ends up working for the brackets.

just curious, where did you buy your limo bar, and what did it cost? I know the price has gone up but I don't know how much...

I got it from Phil at Parts Shop new. It had to come from germany. It took about two weeks and it cost $160-180. I can't find the receipt on my computer right now but that was the range.

So far my trial fitting suggests that you can't use stock mounts with the limo bar.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the 500E mounts and the 190E mounts?

I would use the stock inner mounts on my W201 with my limo sway bar but they don't seem to be big enough. I cannot squeeze the inner limo bushing into the brackets and I don't want to force anything because it is no good if the bracket just pinches the bushing so that the sway bar cannot move.

I am working on getting some brackets to work with and I will post up the differences in the brackets and let everyone know!!!
