topspeed in a 2000 S500

hey guys.. i was lucky enough to find a long 15 mile stretch of rt 80 westbound in jersey wide open with only another vehicle riding with me a bmw 740i assuming it was a 99 sport... well we went at it from a 60-top speed dash.. but the thing is the S500 only does 130ish... whats the deal with that?? i had the bimmer the whole way up until the governor kicked in.. i thought that the s500 was capable of an easy 155 whats the deal??

AMG models and 600s are limited to 155 mph.

Hi,
I have always seen the (2000) s500 being tested at 155 mph in the different road tests.
Must be something going wrong with your car.

The 2000 S500 is governed to 130 due to tires, but is capable of more.

MB's high performance models are governed to 155mph.

Hope this helps

FWIW, my 1991 300CE has no speed restriction on it and will well exceed the 130mph current models are governed to.

I believe that many U.S. side auto mags published 130mph top speed in their write-ups/ tests...

What's so surprizing about 130mph? This is the N. American Spec.

If you'd like the car faster -as you know- there are tuners that will professionally R&D and install engineered upgrades achieving a higher top speed. Don't forget to upgrade on: tires, brakes, suspenion, etc. to match the increased top speed capability.
