How hard is it to Kompress a 300E??

Hello Borad, I was wondering if the M103 is a good candidate for a supercharger?? Will the pontiac GTP or ford thunderbird superchargers work on the m103??How about the SLK supercharger. They are relativley cheap(under $500 on ebay). Will anything have to be custom made for it to work on the m103??Where do I mount it??My 300e needs to be a real sleeper and I am not really interested in adding a turbo.

Post a detailed pic of the front and top of your engine. I can tell you how easy it will be to install.

don't forget you'll need a fuel management system! The stock ECU is going to be confoozled by all the extra air.

If your car is CIS-E you will not need to update your fuel management system. I feel the CIS-E system on my supercharged SEC will feed 400 RWHP. Hopefully, I'll get my header and intercooler project finished in the next three weeks. I'll keep y'all updated.

Why not a turbo? I think Mosselman offers a kit for your car...

Check out this setup. I know nothing about the company but, they are the only ones I know that offer a complete kit.

Now THAT looks sweet. I really like the manifold. The bi-turbo kit makes more power though. The cost is nuts - what's that, $9k in USD....? Ouch.

Well I was thinking of buying a used kompressor(around $300) and somehow getting it to work on my car. Is it realistic to get this total set-up done for under $1000? I want only about 20-30 extra HP.

I've been told that the diesel turbocharger is too small to work effectively on gas engines at higher RPM. I'm not positive about this though.

Mike,

The problem with the TDI system is that it uses a pop-off valve that is pressure activated. The use of a pop-off valve instead of a vacuum activated bypass valve causes very rough shifting in our vacuum modulated trannys. Imagine a shift kit in an old muscle car and that is what your tranny feels like with the TDI kit. You can make an effective supercharger system for your 300 E that will double your horsepower. A conservative increase in power is between 40% to 50% if you do not use an intercooler and with an effective intercooler and enough boost you can see a 100%+ increase in power. The TDI system can be greatly improved and still cost under $5,000 with all new parts.

I have less than $4,000 invested in my supercharger system and half of that was the cost of the supercharger: ATI Procharger P1SC. I think the custom headers and air to water intercooler system will probably run me another $2,000 but should add another 100+ hp to my engine.

Mike,
I am also interested in doing this conversion aswell, I can pick aup a charger for around $350 aswell, and a friend of mine just installed one on his toyota, landcruiser. different car but similar principal. I m going to give it a go. essentially the hardest thing i think will be getting the pullies lined up so that the belt is straight, and then the piping will be another issue but not one that will be to hard to solve. I personally am going to give it a go.
I'll get back to you on what how I went about it.

Key things to remebr is that you have to be very carefull that you don't over boost in the engine, and that you plan the mods and cost them before you start othewise you'll end up ***** creek with out a paddle.
On the overboost factor does anyone know how much pressure an m103 can handle? I plan on doing a little work on my engine aswell, but essentially, are we talking 4 or 6 or even 8 pounds of pressure. And how do you adjust the pressure of the charger.

Cheers Mike

Mike,

You adjust the pressure with a blower by the pulley sizes or by using a pop-off valve that will open at a predertimed level. I feel certain that you can safely run 8 psi of boost in your car if there is fuel and your run either an intercooler or a methanol/water injection to cool the charge. I'm seeing around 10 psi of boost a few inches from the back of the intake valve. I will eventually try to spin my blower harder that I'm running it now. My blower is rated at 1200 CFM and up to 32 psi of boost. Of course, boost is dependent on engine size and flow so I don't think it would produce nearly that much boost on my 5.6L engine. The manufacturer says it will produce enough boost to support 875 horsepower but I know my car will not ever come close to that mark. I'll be happy with around 550 hp though.

I only want about 20-30 extra HP. Will I be able to pull this off on a stock engine??

mike i dunno about you but I am looking at mounting the supercharger above the alternator i think. (as your looking at the car) on the left side of the block.

Then I would drop the S/C intake piping down to underneath the chassis rail. I would probably make the custom piping out of fibreglass for want of more funds to make it out of carbon fibre. Depending completely it the fibre can with stand the heat.
Then I will run the S/C exhaust either over the block, or depending on costs allowances, under the chassis rails to a side mounted intercooler(with either or both an electric fan, or a water mister, to bring down ambient temprature.), and then back up on top to the engine intake.

I plan on also raising the fuel flow through the throttle body/ injection system, and possible the pressure with a higher pressure pump if possible(research pending.)

I will also pull the head off the engine and have it ported and polished(again research into worthwhile pending), have the valves/valve seats all checked out, the pistons, the injectors, the spark plugs, the leads, the distributor. The fuel lines, filters. and the throttle bodies and airflow sensors. Just to check that everything is running smoothly.

I also plan on getting a full set of extractors and a high flow but well muffled exhaust system, right the way through.

When i put all this back together, I am considering putting two head gaskets in to lower the compression, or maybe just buy one thicker one (again research pending).

Plus I will do a little spray painting to make everything look pretty.

Can you tell me if i have left anything out.
