Need German/English speaking Help w/Audi NAVI+ System

Just bought a 2002 Audi S6 Avant Wagon. The US Navigation system is a joke. The German version called Navigation Plus is slick. One can not buy them here Stateside. there are many for sale on Ebay.de which is in German.I was hoping one of our German/English speaking members could help me on my quest.

TIA

Tom

I also posted this on the Audio forum.

Jim - feel free to advise if you can as you spend some time on the other side of the Pond.

Thumbs up

Sweeeeeeeeet car Tom, what colour combo? ...not too many of those babys around. You'll defintely have to come down for the annual Audi S-fest held in Tolland, CT...usually over 50 cars come from all over in August.

So, have you already bought the German nav system and want help translating or are you considering it? I would think that the German Nav system only has data for Europe and likewise, the US systems data is for North America. I don't know though.

I recommend S-list.org (or something like that) for more details on the content of the system. Of course, if you haven't got it and still want it I'd be happy to help you out in any way I can.

Here's a good one liner for the ladies..."Ich mochte in ihren gugelhupf beissen."

Ich Nein mit da gotten it yet

There is a US Dealer in Blaupunkt products that says he can get a new head unit from a German source - He wants beaucoup bucks to acquire and install. This dealer says the US maps sold by Blaupunkt distributors here wont work in this Audi/VW specific product. He did say that he could get the maps. There is a lot of these things for sale on the German ebay site from a lot of folks with substantial positive ratings. What I need is for someone fluent in English and German to peruse the ebay site and identify a new or factory refurb unit with a black surround face that is guaranteed not to arrive Stateside DOA. I also need to ask the seller of these units how to acquire map discs of the US that work in this VW/Audi specific product.

OK I'll take the bait and hope I don't regret asking - Fhat the wuck is a "gugelhupf"

Tom

PS: It is Brilliant Black with all Black leather interior(reason Rachel calls it her Hot Rod Hearse) I am investigating some RS mods costs such as the RS specific wheels and the Twin Turbos to boost the horsepower/torque from 340/310 to 450/afterburner class

Just finished up with this problem

I run some AudiClub NA driver ed events as an instructor and have had conversations with this exact navigation problem. I've been told there is a VW employee (in the USA) who has worked out the conversion for the maps to be compatible with the German unit.
Write me offline and I'll dig up names etc. for helping you. And BTW my frau is German!!

LOL...Ser gut Toby....make sure you lite a candle, open a nice bottle of Reissling and say it with a big smile !!!! BTW, my ex-frau loved it when this American spoke dirty German to her...hehe.

Tom, One of the Audi S-list guys recently moved to Germany to work at Bosch...Keith Maddox is his name. I introduce you to him via e-mail and perhaps he could better help you out if you really want to buy from Germany direct. I personally wouldn't buy such an expensive item from ebay.de without knowing full well if it works or not, stolen, etc.

You may have less grief buying that unit here in the states thru one of Tobias' contacts. In fact, there is a Audi parts guy in Atlanta, Georgia area (Toby probably knows him) who gets parts like such from Germany all day long. You really want to take this to an Audi forum like the S-list.

Thanks Toby U got mail

Jim, you are right in that I should take this to an Audi forum. I joined the s-list last Sunday and posted an ad in the wanted forum but was reluctant to ask about it from a crowd of folk who don't know me yet. I figured that some of our own crowd here might offer resources to complete my quest at a reasonable price.

I went on the Audi UK site to see what the price would be new in England as an installed option -$2175 Pounds and that is taking into consideration that you don't also get the Symphony radio/6 CD DIN combo. Methinks that a brand new unit is gonna be in the $3000.00 range. I might as well install Onstar and use that for the 3 or so years she will have this rig.

Tom

After punching this thing last Sunday on a short trip on Rt128 and a spirited drive back home through the winding roads of the Blue Hills in S mode, I am dying to get behind the wheel of an RS6 with 450 horse and 414 Torque - have fun tonight with that RS4.

S%#@*...3 grand? Methinks a $3 map is all the navigation one needs. Hope you can score it more reasonably, man...ouchy.

The RS6 is an awesome ride...I actually watched from 20 feet away as Galati drove his RS6 into the guardrail at about 100 mph in the rain at Lime Rock this past Memorial Day...go figure this... RWD M3s gets first and third while Pobst's AWD RS6 gets 2nd in heavy rains after leading the whole race. What a shame and quite embarassing for Team Audi.

I tell the Audiots I know to welcome you warmly...there are a bunch in the Boston area that I'm sure you'll soon meet.
