Scott, I don't have a part number but the evaporator is the last thing you want to have to replace. You're talking $2K+. My understanding is that you must pull the dash, disconnect the airbags and more.

This is NOT very hard; I have done this already (twice), by myself, in the course of doing all my interior mods.

YES, it is VERY time consuming; however, I would much prefer to do this job myself; it can't be that complicated.

My 92 500E's A/C is no better or no worse than my 92 300E--adequate, but nothing to wright home about. During our recent hot spell, there were times when it was not comfortable enough. I believe that the clutch is not working properly, because occasionally it will only blow hot air until I turn it on and off a few times. My warranty will expire very soon, so I need for it to do it when I can run it over to the mechanic's. Is there a way to diagnose this when it is working correctly? I want to get this taken care of before the warranty runs out.

Tom

Tom- Suggest taking it to a pro for diagnosis...the a/c, hvac, aux fan procedures are comprehensive ...sounds like you need to take care of it asap

we have another period of unusually hot weather in the next 5-7 days...let us know what turns out

Scott- kudos to you on your wrenching abilities --being able to handle an evaporator replacement!

fwiw- I believe factory a/c review procedures include:

>function test cli control
>cli control socket box test
>evap temp sensor elec test
>compressor actuate test/fans jumping appr terminals
>compressor cut out test- voltage to compressor terminate
>flap test
>cooling capacity test- vent temp
>high side/low side psi- source excessive high side pressure as applicable
>leak test/probe
>compressor / expansion valve cond/function
>elec test of fan switch at drier
>fan relay elec test-jump power and ground and measure resistence of contacts
>R134/R12 low charge

hope this helps

A/C update

Benny Lui impregnated my A/C system with U/V dye, this afternoon.

My system is cool as a cucumber, now; however, if/when things warm up again, he will sniff out the problem.

Hopefully, it will NOT prove to be the evaporator!

No offense. Scott ha ha, but your high. This is not an easy job You can't be saying to the do it youselfersd this a walk in the park.

Its alot of time. You might as well go tell them to rebuild there tandem pump

LOL!

Tom. What happens alot is the compressor kicks off cause of belt slip. Make sure you have a updated belt tensioner. This happened alot in the 90's before they updated the belt tensioners.

Gdog!
