Did a new shipment just pull in to port??

Last Saturday in Santa Monica I saw 3 brand new E55 AMG's driving.

Jeez they're beautiful. I love the quad exhaust.

The new supercharged E55 is very fast...

I saw a new body CLK55 AMG the other day too in Scottsdale, AZ. I road around in one in Munich, they are pretty cool. Quicker than I had thought.

BTW. I have done a boost kit on the new E55. It dynoed at EXACTLY the same as the SL. So whatever they publish is BS. I have the dyno results to prove it!

Benzmac probably means he dialed up the boost on the Kompressor to match the SL specs and he finds that the results are the same as what they have for the SL55 Kompressor car.

Thats amazing. I hope it can hook up.

OK, maybe I'm not getting this. I just looked at the MB website and it says the 0-60 times are the same for the SL55 and the new E55.

Benzmac....are you saying the the MB website is BS?

Craig,

Since the SL is the flagship of the MB lineup they always try to keep it's rated horsepower above the rest of their models. In the case of the E55 vs the SL55 they both have the same engine and kompressor however the boost is turned down on the E55 to keep status quo. I assume Benzmac has adjusted boost as someone mentioned earlier and he's achieved the same horsepower figures as the SL. The E55 should be lighter than the SL so technically with this boost kit is should also be faster.

Ahhh OK.

The MBUSA web site says that the 0-60 is the same for both. I never looked at the hp. The E is rated at 469hp and the SL at 493. So with the boost turned up, the E should be faster......Now it's a bit clearer.

...the new generation CLK55 I spied was doing the snail's pace for quite a while

I was at a steady 75mph when I caught up to it and didn't slow to examine it for a longer period of time...in passing it a very attractive car

fwiw- the driver appeared to be a petite early twenty-something asian female

E55 vs W124 E500

I just traded in my 94 E500 for a 2003 W211 E55. I still have less than a thousand miles and have not done any WOT acceleration but the E55 is a rocket compared to the old E500 which was no slouch. I need to put another 300 miles on before I take it out for test and tune night. I will report back on my times.

I always thought that the weakest part of the W124 E500 was the 4-speed automatic and the new AMG-tuned 5-speed is definitely a major improvement.

The build quality of the W211 is much improved over the W210 wagon my wife has but still not up to par with the W124. The E55 is also not as differentiated style wise from the rest of the W211 line as the E500 was from other W124s. I miss those fender flares!

Awwww, bummer. Was you're E500 offered here on the board??

Yeah, 0-60 in 4.6 seconds.....about 1.5 seconds faster than the E500....amazing.

What color??? Pics please!!!

Do you mean the stock hp ratings are equal on the dyno, or you had to tweak the E55? What was the dyno after the kit?

BTW, what do you guys at your new shop offer in regards to a performance increase for the new E55 and SL55?

Another question for anyone, what is the widest tire/wheel combo that will go on a W211 E55?

Seems the car is very traction limited in acceleration and in the corners, that is compared to the current and soon to be out competition.

I might be getting one this time next year, hopefully the new 7 speed tranny will be out for the AMG's by then. Then all the car needs is a limited slip diff and little higher gear ratio to smoke anything that dares...

I will keep the 500E though, thinking ahead I know I would miss it to much to part with it. Anyways, there should be some quality big HP kits availble for the 500E/E500 by next year, I hope!
