500E/E500 wish list...

OK,

Time to dream again guys and gals. What is would you like to do with your ride if the parts where available?

For me,

1. Quaility Forced Induction kit - A well thoughtout twin-turbo kit or a Lysholm twin screw supercharger kit like the one in the currentl E55. Must fully integrate with the original electronics and must be operator tuneable on the fly. Need at least a 500 hp to meet current day offerings or the kit is a no-go.

2. Suspension Upgrade - This one is way off the charts, I would like a aftermarket kit that incorporates current Electronically controlled struts like ABCS. Natually, you the driver could change the vehicle dynamics at the turn of a switch from silky smooth, to race track, 0% lean, vertabrae compressing over potholes, stiff.

3. Interior Upgrade - Complete sound system upgrade to current day spec's to include a 7" flat panel display with full Navigation and DVD player integrated into the head unit for a stock look when the car is off.

4. Wheel Upgrade - I would like to see more Mercedes Styled wheels available in the aftermarket. They would need to keep with current 18" and 19" wheel size trends and of course they would must be forged allowing for maximum weight-loss results! Personally I might like to see a stock 500E wheel done in 19" and forged construction. Oh yeah, no silly 1-2k a wheel prices, it is only a round hunk of metal people!

5. Big Bore Upgrade - A quality affordable 6.0 liter engine which could also be built with Forced Industion in mind (i.e. a 8.5 to 9.0 CR).

One last thing, I would love to see someone do the following models; 500CE Coupe, 500E Cab, and a 500E Wagon to factory level spec's, with the above upgrades of course!

Yeah right, now I'm really 500E dreaming.......

Almost forgot!

6. Transmission Upgrade - Would be the new 7 speed or a quality 6-Speed.

Bergwerks was considering a turbo or supercharger, I can't remember which, for about $6,000, if enough people were interested. See the archives.

I would like simple bolt on items like cat-back exhausts and headers and if not too cost prohibitive, something like an Eaton supercharger for the 500E/E500.......

Yeah, Carl at Bergwerks was working on a kit which I believe is still making forward progress.

Does anybody have any info on this?

I spoke with Carl at the Morro Bay GTG a couple weeks ago. He brought the lysholm s/c case with him and we talked about how it might fit. In short, it doesn't look very promissing at this point.

The 124.036 engine bay is tight! The only viable possibility is a centrifugal s/c on the passenger side by relocating the SLS fluid reservoir and washer fluid tank.

7. Rear Differential Upgrade - Changing the rear diff from a ASR 2.82 to a 3.07 or 3.27 ratio.

I know, I know, may as well put in a Anti-Gravity kit that makes a trip to the Bahamas a 5 minute affair as well!

I don't know guys, if I had the financial means (just a lousy 10 Mil) there would be some serious Mercedes Tuning and Marketing going on in the US to include seasonal racetrack action. Frankly, I am a little bit tired of convincing my BMW and Ricer friends of the potential inherant in the average Mercedes let alone a performance model.

And think I would start with the M119.xxx platform.

As luck would have it (currently that is), I cannot fufill these silly, irresponsible, money thirsty, pipe dreams, but we as a group..., well that is a different ball of wax all together.

(To bad Paul Allen is not a Custom Mercedes tuning Nut!)

I hear ya....

The idea is to put in the M119 motor and transmission and add the 500E flares and other 500E-specific bodywork to make it look as factory as possible. I've been kicking around this idea for a couple years and have talked with Tobias and Scott P. about it (somewhat tongue-in-cheek), but this will be a goal in the next year or two...(gotta finish paying for the CLK55 first!)

I really love the 124 coupe chassis and I think the 500CE would be the 'perfect' Mercedes-Benz
