I do not have numbers for you but,

I do own an automatic from the same year. All of the 124's have problems with the A/C, specifically the evaporator $$$, and the front upper chain cover seal, not too hard or expensive for the latter. Also the valve guides and seals in the engine had problems, again not too expensive to fix since the head does not have to come off.
Other than that, very strong cars and there are very few 5 speed 300e's, not a collector item but rare.
Good luck!

J. Hidalgo: How do you fix valve guide problems on a 193 engine without taking the cylinder head off????????
I am sure Mercedes would like to know.

For Jackd!

Reading my e-mail again:
"Also the valve guides and seals in the engine had problems, again not too expensive to fix since the head does not have to come off."
The seals can be replaced without taking the head off. The head has to come off for the valve guides. Good thing there are a lot of eyes looking at the postings.
By the way... what is a 193 engine? I am sure Mercedes would like to know.

OK, you got me there . A 193 engine is an unknown (to everybody but me) version of the 103 engine.

You could always do it the old fashoned way with a length of string down the spark-plug hole, then bring it up to TDC.

I'm sure there are very clever levers, clamps and extractors to do the same thing, but they won't be as cheap
