Michael,

I'd have to agree with you, I'm surprised at the shots many are taking on this car. I hope your brother get's top dollar for this beauty.

SuperSEC,

You may not feel the car is worth it but honestly that is just your opinnion and nothing more. The car IMO is a collector item and as many have mentioned already it's all about perceived value. You say the car is too old with too many miles but I've seen older cars with higher miles sell for much more money......explain that. As far as running up the price with false bids from friends, that is pretty risky if you ask me and I seriously doubt they would do it. Remember if the car sells to a false purchaser the seller will still have to pay commission to ebay.

Comparing the E600 to the W210 E55 or even the W211 E55 is absolutely rediculous. I'm not going to point out differences since they're pretty obvious. I will say that I seriously doubt any car enthusiast would want a W211 7 years from now when the airmatic and electronics start aging and MB warranty is long gone.

I estimate the price will top out around $39 - $40K for this car.

First of all, its a real 500E hand assembled by Porsche in Zuffenhausen with the 1994 E500 upgrades, which look awesome. BBS RC wheels, one of my favorites.

Renntech (Brembo) big brakes with fenominal stoping power on and off the track.

So what its 50k now, a new E55 the dealer is getting near 100k for the car, but do you know what car is going to be worth more in ten years, or even 20 years, its the 500E.

Because of the rarity of this car, I'd be willing to bet it'll go higher than Placo1 projects.

I'll put it between $40k-$50k, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if it goes higher.

Many cars are hand assembled. It does not make them better. Hell, Rolls-Royce used to make basically every part by hand. Are those skyrocketing in value.....yeah, maybe the really old ones but not in general. My Porsche 928 was also hand assembled but I don't see the value skyrocketing. It is going up but not by leaps and bounds.

I wish the guy luck and hope he gets top dollar. I hope he sells it for $50,000 or more. Keep in mind this is a tuner car and not made by a manufacturer. Big difference! Looks like a nice car but then again looks can be deceiving. Where do you get parts if they break? One off parts are not easy or cheap to purchase. You buy the car and six months later you throw a rod or a bearing seizes...then what? I guess you put a 500E motor in or spend another $35,000 and have Renntech build another motor if they will.

Micheal, I hope your brother gets a amount that fairly reflects the condition, heritage and rarity of the car.......and that the buyer is told of this forum becos the E600, being the super car that it is, definitely justifies its position on a podium besides its 500E500 brethren...............

That's a sweet car! I wish I had $50k

Honestly I probably wouldn't buy such a car if $50k wasn't pocket change for me It wouldn't do the car justice. I'd think that people who are serious about buying the car would be paying cash. $50k and resale value wouldn't matter for them either.

There are other cars for people concerned about such things. Like the 500E wannabe... *420*

BTW,

www.hatchandsons.com

They had a black on black 94 E500 w/ 50k mi. that, I'm sure was sold for some $40k + a few days after they had it listed!

If the engine blows up... what's $35k for people who have way too much money? Then again you could just get the 6.0 AMG M119 w/ 381hp. In fact, I think you could order the 6.0 M119 from Mercedes-Benz... hmm that'd be sweet for my E420.

Now.. gotta figure out a way to quickly make my first million...

BTW, good luck to your brother. If you ever find a more affordable 500E let me know!

At $35,100

It's still moving-apparently there are some seriously interested folks out there (the concept of "running up" the price has not been employed, I assure you) that want a real fast W124.

Somebody's gonna have some fun!

Uh, if there were friends doing this, don't ya think they would know the reserve and not bid over the reserve? Not that I'm saying this is happening on the E600 but it wouldn't be the first time it has happened on Ebay.

Michael:

Could you be so kind as to send me detailed pics of this car, that is, if you have them or access to them. I PMed you some details.

Thanks,

That is because your 928 was not one of 1500 brought to NA, then made even more rare by modding it through Renntech professionally. I also doubt that your 928 was anywhere near as groundbreaking for Porsche as even the BASE model of the W124 was for MB. To take such a critically acclaimed vehicle (500E) and make it even better, it becomes quite a sought after machine.

With regards to the parts availability, as Run noted earlier, the buyer of this car, or other .036's for that matter, will generally be more well off and not worry about a rod being thrown, or a bearing seizing. This most likely will not be a daily driver, nor will it be beaten mercilessly, although I would believe it could take it anyway.

Actually, the 928 was the only sports car to EVER win European car of the year award. I do recall the 928 was also Motor Trend car of the year too. The Weissach suspension as pioneered in the 928 is still used today by Porsche and was the first all wheel steeing system used in a production car. Oh yeah, let's not forget the 928S4 also set a Bonneville Salt Flat record for top speed in a production car.

I'll tell you what. Take a base 1994 500E and a base 1994 Porsche 928 and put it on the track or on the street and compare. The 928 will hand it its ass and then come back around and hand it off again. The comparison isin't even close. Don't talk about the Porsche 928 when do not even have a clue.

I like the 500E but my 928 would beat the daylights out of the 500E in every aspect except passengers space. I think my 928 would also beat the bejusus out of that E600 too; however, my 928 is not stock so the comparison is not fair. That E600 is a sweet car though.

I love Mercedes. I have an E430 sport, an E55, a custom supercharged 560 SEC and a Porsche 928 but there is no comparison between the Mercedes and the Porsche. I would sell all of the Mercedes if I had to make a choice between them and the 928.

Incredible!

THAT'S what I love about this forum... so many opinions / so little time!

Incidentally, Super SEC's latest post raises the question: what is the (correct) plural of "Mercedes?"

Is it "Mercedes," "Mercedeses," "Mercedes-Benzes," "Benzes," or "Daimler-Chryslers?"

According to http://www.websters.com:

1 entry found for Mercedes.

Mercedes, TX (city, FIPS 47700)

Population (1990): 12694 (4042 housing units)

Did not know that ....

super SEC:

928 ... car of the year! Wow. Nice to know.

Your P-car sounds pretty impressive ... how about starting a new thread to discuss it. I'm sure some of us Go-Fast folks are interested. This weekend, I just happened to see a 928 in the L.A. area ... it put a smile on my face.
