w123 steering wheel

Has anyone ever replaced a w123 steering wheel with a newer MBZ and smaller(diameter) wheel ie: c-class wheel?? Any problems encountered like horn connection and turn signal issues? I just think that my w123 coupe's steering wheel is BIG..
pro's and con's welcome--
thanks

Aren't the C-Class wheels all airbag (SRS) equip'd and you'd be putting that into a non-airbag W123?

I changed my non-airbag W201 "bus wheel" to a slightly smaller non-airbag wheel. going from 16.5" to about 15" and it's great. The downside is that the steering column is not adjustable on my car, so the wheel gets in the way of the fuel gauge (including the low fuel light), the top of the speedo (where 60 mph is) and part of the tach. I've compensated some, by lowering the seat and driving a bit more "arms out" to regain some view.

you're right MTI - it's an airbag wheel for a non airbag car. But what you are saying is a non-aibag to a smaller non-airbag wheel should work...except it blocks the instrument panel..bummer.
Maybe MORAINE is correct and just leave well enough alone.. The car was designed with it so it should work best for it..It was just a wild hair that I had... a brain fart - it's commonly called in our household- I appreciate all the help!!

There's plenty of aftermarket wheels to consider . . . Momo, Nardi, Grant, etc. you might even find a non-airbag AMG wheel (some were made by Momo for AMG) to replace the OEM steering wheel. Despite the view lines, I prefer my smaller diameter wheel and wouldn't go back to the original.

Good God!!! Those early MB steering wheels are gigantic and horrible! Buy a wheel from a newer MB.

The old ones are 410mm. Nowadays, they are 370-380mm. They are thicker, leather-padded, etc.

Try it. You'll love it!

w123 steering wheel

this is going to sound odd, but it looks really good. i took a grant adaptor and modified it to accept the wheel that i liked...it was a new ford f-150 wheel. then using ren board (industrial design modeling foam) i carved out the missing airbag, inserted a star and wired the cruise buttons for the horn. if you want a pict. email me. the wheel is 15" and a lot nicer to drive, gauge visability is an issue, but memorize your needle location and your fine.
