Question what really needs to be done to convert w123 brakes?

Hello
I am working on a w123 build up. I really want a brake upgrade. I have the perf prod slotted notched rotors up front, but I want to go to w126. It seems possible to me as we share many parts....

But what really needs to be done?

Will the 126 rotor bolt to the 123 hub, will the 126 caliper bolt to the 123 spindle, or do I need a 126 spindle and will that bolt to the arms ect. Or does the 126 hub and rotor fit the 123 spindle. As you can see I have alot of variables running in my head, and my Dad wants some real answers before we start...

M.B.DOC on 3-12-2003 said "...you will need the rotors, calipers and the brake backing plates. direct bolt on..."
What parts from what car going where??

Any real help would be awesome.
Thank you.

Any matching parts will work. ie; 1984 380SE all of these parts will bolt-on to the W123 car using the original hubs. Rotors, calipers, & backing plates are all that you need.

IF the parts are from 1986 or later W126 car you will also need to use 15" wheels!

I have installed 560SEL parts onto several W123 cars including one that I autocrossed several years, 1981 280E.

Question On a related note...

Is there any way to convert a 123 to ABS? I've heard that at least some of the 123s in the UK (& maybe the rest of Europe?) had ABS, so it may not even require any non-123 parts...

(I know nothing about how ABS work so maybe I'm dreaming here. If so, tell me! :-)

Search on my name. I just did a brake upgrade 560SEL front brakes on a 300CD turbo. You can use w123 hubs, but where the hat bolts to the hub, they dont meet exactly like on the w126 hub. It doesnt really matter. If you want dust sheilds, you need to put on the 560SEL dust sheilds. I have Zimmermann Cross drilled rotors, and OE MB brake pads. I had the calipers rebuilt as well.

Brake upgrade W123 to W126 (humor me and read it please 500E guys)

It is a good idea to upgrade the rear brakes too (some people say you have to do both axles at the same time), but when you look at a car stop, the rear end lifts a little. So if the brakes in the back are too strong, it could lock up the rear tires.

I am thinking about painting them soon. I would recommend doing it all at once. And the brakes will not fit inside the 14inch wheel, you will need at least 15" wheels...you can buy my 17s on ebay right now

There are a few companies that make lowering springs for the w123 as well. You can do a search on my name as well, and you will find some info.

Also, I don't really like ABS, and I think it would be an incredible amount of work to retrofit. ABS is for someone that wants to just get in the car and drive. Most race car drivers prefer non-abs cars.

Enjoy,

The picture isn't very good. Do you have another? What brand springs did you get?
