Good transport company to ship 500E?

Anyone know of a good transport company to ship a 500E? Do they have companies that ship cars in closed containers to protect them or will I be stuck with those car trailers that are open. This is new to me, so if anyone wants to share their experiences that would be great. Any suggestions or comments will be appreciated. Thanks for your replys. If this is in the wrong forum, then I apologize.

When we moved from California to Florida, my company paid to have COVERED transport of it's employee's cars.

This was with an outfit called, Passport Transport.

They ship exotic and rare cars for the various Concours shows around the country.

Expect to pay about $3,000+ to ship coast-to-coast.

Thumbs up

I have used Intercity Lines (www.intercitylines.com) to transport several cars that I have both owned and sold. They ship in only covered containers and are extremely competent. The cars are enclosed and coverd once in the van. I would highly reccomend them and will personally use them again.

I am shipping my E500 from CA to NYC within the next week or so and door to door, enclosed with insruance runs about $1,500 from DAS, terminal to terminal is about $1,250.

If you do an open carrier terminal to terminal with insruance it will run you $704, big price difference.

One problem is if you are shipping to or from somewhere that is a bit off the beaten path. You have to wait until a carrier has more than just your car to ship.
Last summer I got tired of being put off by carriers (Memphis to SF) for over a month, so I flew oujt ot Memphis and drove my 500E home. Cost about the same amount, and instant gratification!!
Where is the car, and where do you want to ship it to?

Thanks for all the input. Shipping would be from Cleveland to Los Angeles. I called DAS and intercitylines and both quoted around $1400 door to door, in a closed transport. But DAS offers a place to drop off the car, and a pick up point which was around $1200. Open air transport was a lot cheaper. Any other experiences or suggestions? Thanks

Jeez, it's 2,300 miles. At 100 MPH, that's only about 24 hrs with fuel stops.

Drive It! And bring lotsa cash & a V1

You will never forget the experience for as long as you live - as far as I'm concerned, there is no better car for putting miles behind you, in big gulps (I've driven mine 700+ miles in a sitting probably 16 times, and will do it again at my next opportunity)

Isn't that worth a more reasonable 2-3 days? 2,300 miles=$300 in fuel, and maybe $100 in hotels. Add in $50 for road food, and you're in good shape.
