Drove a C43....

It was powerful! Sounded nice, handled great...

but .. it was a rattle box! Everything seemed to rattle inside the car! Maybe it was a bad example but I definitely wasn't impressed. Especially compared to the W124 E500

But... the M113 was powerful! The exhaust also made a nice rap. The engine was missing the M119's funky snarling sound as it races to its redline though. It had a simpler but equally powerful voice!

The car obviously felt more powerful than my E420 but it didn't have 'push you into the seat' punch as the W124 E500.

I probably could get that car for $9000 + my car from the dealer. Quite a good deal I thought.

maybe I shouldn't compare the C-class to the E500. There are things about the C43 that I like more than the W124 500 though...

- nicer AC; cools faster, quieter, and it's a good a nifty display :p
- very nice steering wheel..
- glass sunroof

oh well...

It should not rattle at all... plus, if it doesn't have "push you into the seat punch" then you should not consider it an example of the true C43 experience. If you are looking for one, keep looking.

I have driven several C43's including a 2000 and they all have some interior rattle. Not a rattle that is bad, but more of road nosie rattle. They are nice fast cars, but diffrent form the feel of W124 E500. The C class body doesn't block out nosie like the W124 just like the W124 doens't block out noise like a W140.

sounds similar to the noises I have. I think mine are body flex. Compared to the 201 16v the C36 doesn't feel nearly as rigid. I esp. hear/feel it going into driveways etc. off square.

Any one have similar experiences and/or ideas to make it better.

I just bought a 1998 C43 AMG, one owner, 30,000 miles. I've only put a couple of hundred miles on but I am impressed how solid it feels and how rattle free it is, especially with the stiff suspension and tires. The center armrest cover had a squeak but I cured it by adding small foam rubber stick-on buttons to the rubber feet under the lid. The seat cushion rubs against the multi-contour control, I'll cure that with some black felt. Other than that the car is squeak and rattle free. Much more so than the G35 I used as trade-in.
