Very Sweet !

There are a number of us w/500E's looking into doing a custom exhaust. Do you have any advice?

Also, have you had any problems with resonance in the cabin at 3K rpm or so?

Sounds good, very aggressive! Do you consider it too loud at idle or at higher rpms?

Keep up the great work!

Did you use the magnaflow cat? What diameter pipes?
One muffler or two?
Can you describe how it has affected the performance?
Do you notice any flat spots at low rpm? Have you dyno'd it?

Thanks!

That looks nice! Looks very clean, I like it a lot. One of the slickest 201s I've seen.

I did something somewhat like it to my 126. I had the exhaust lopped off right where it begins on the underside of the the car (my euro never had the precat right out of the manifolds), and then I installed a high-flow 2 into 2 cat (carsound -- www.exhaustproslinc.com), left out the kidney resonators completely and used the stock muffler. Sounds gooooood! I recommend this for any 126 owner (you'd have to work around that precat issue though I guess on US cars). Leaving the stock muffler made it not too loud, but if most definitely has a nice ballsy rasp to it esp. if you rap it. It has a little interior resonance, but I like it, gives the car some character, it was a little TOO quiet before. If I've got a V8 I wanna hear it! Also, if you play music, you won't be able to hear anything. The exhaust shop custom bent the whole thing, they did an awesome job and made it look factory.

Something unrelated...did you buy those red taillights or did you use taillight paint?

Co$t is relative...

Another 500E driver was quoted $600 to do a cat back Flowmaster system with a single 3" pipe and center resonator.
My neighbor had a true dual x-over on a 66 GTO built from the manifold back for $300, but it was mild steel, not stainless.

By comparison, the rear muffler from MB is $800...

The quote was "$500-600" depending on if they had to fabricate a new exhaust hanger rod or not, to weld onto the system.

Guess we'll find out in the next week how the Flowmaster system with center kidney muffler goes on the E500. I'll post phots during/after install, and do a sound/vid with my digicam.

I'm more interested in a factory-ish sound than something too much more aggressive.

Stay tuned.

Cheers,
Gerry

Sounds like my 380 that I had to have straightpiped. Nice sound.

You can tell its not a v8 by how fast the idle is. Its a 6. However, at first listen the "blat blat" is reminiscent of a Harley or a v8.
