Suspension choices for my w126

Hello all,

This is my first post to this board... I posed this question on MBWorld as well, but have received no interest yet.

What I know:

1. Koni special shocks and H&R springs, not matched for the car

2. Renntech springs and shocks, matched and pricy and that still does not address the roll-bar issue.

I don't know of a source for roll-bars, but think upgraded bars for the w126 are essential I want the pieces to work in conjunction with each other to yield firm dampening, low roll, but compliant initial bump impact.

What I want to have my w126 handling smartly and with authority, but I'm under the illusion that I can make it handle like a 996TT.

I posted pics in the w126 forum on MBWorld, check them out!

oops

I'm NOT under the illusion that I can make my w126 handle like a 996TT. I knew I'd screw up my first post!

Ciao

First, get your suspension and steering components working properly. New steering linkage, new ball joints, new bushings and a proper alignment. Then go after the performance parts.

I want less roll in my 300SE too, but I'll have to wait until the car is 'perfect'. I'd like larger sway bars as well. I understand the front one is a PITA to replace.

Please post a link to your pics.

hey wbain5280,

I have replaced everything in the suspension except the lower control arms which I will replace when I install the upgraded bits. IF I can find some suitable stuff! HELP

I have replaced all the rear bushings and subframe bushings, all of the front subframe bushings, upper control arms, guide rod to subframe kit, steering box, tie rods and center link, steering damper... I'm probably forgeting someting, but think thats pretty much the story!

And yes, the front swaybar is between the primary and secondary firewalls, so thats gonna be a PITA to replace for sure.

Wink I slapped on some konis & H&R's

In addition to rebuilding my entire suspension, brakes and new bearings all the way around, I added koni adjustable shocks (reds) and a set of H&R springs. My 126 is a project car, not my daily driver so I only get to make progress at a snail's pace. I still need to refinish my 16" Lorinser rims and treat them to a decent set of rubber. After the rims, the car will need to be aligned. Even now, I notice a huge improvement in stability and body roll, the car is still very comfortable to drive. I'm planning on re-vamping the roll bar when I'm finioshed with the suspension and am ready to address my A/C woes (roll bar is underneath the A/C components).

good luck!

FYI,

Renntech uses H&R springs.
