2.5 16v crankrods in a 2.316v

hi,

i have found a 2.5 16v 1990 crank and rods. for a good deal,(
(700$) i was wanting to install into a u.s 2.3 16v for a h/p gain,

what am i looking to expect?, i can change the double timing chain spocket on the crank to the single row spocket from the 2.3. 16v,.
i assume that the pistons will fit the 2,5 rods, , any other things to be conserned before i purchase the parts bearings? rod beaings?

thanks guys!

To start with you need a 1987 engine block OR machine work will be needed to allow the crank to fit.

You also will need the "shorter" pistons that the M102.990 engine used.

The 1985-87 engines will NOT allow you to install the double row timing chain. Not enough clearance in the head.

The engine will make 20HP more.

woh. I had no idea that the heads where differnt in the 2.5 then the 2.3 too.. vavle size stays the same right???
, and the short pistons i did not know about either?,

I guess i will have to get the whole 2.5 engine to rebuild..
i have 2 nice running 86 2.3 16v engines)

thanks for saving me a few thousnad bucks MBDoc
Can your MB dealership order me the engine manual for the 2.5 16v MBDOC??

Man ,,,the Posche 911 engine is so easy to modifiy , add some new pistons and jugs throw in some cams and theres 80 h/p for ya, I guess thats why it is so beloved

I get all of my info from the WIS info system.
No info in print from MB here in the USA.

The valves are the same size but the 2.5 has much better CAMS & even a different intake manifold!

I have a modified 2.3 16V street car that has the 2.5 stroker crank, pistons, & rods and it gets 165 rear wheel HP vs about 140 from a stock 2.3 16V.
