how much torque / HP can my differential & axles handle?

Specifically, a 1984 w126. Are these components generaly the weak link in performance upgrades? What did AMG use in terms of gear ratios and diffs in their SECs?

what about a w123

sorry i have no straight information for this post. but if some one is reading it and knows about the w126,maybe they know about the w123 sedans strength too, id be all earson that. i have read about w123 s that have chevy small blocks (350s,383s) with stock drive train-only upraged using turbo fex disks.
