Piston Rings for a M103
Hi fellas,
I'm going have to overhaul my engine. Any better piston rings I can upgrade to, or shall I stick to the Original?? Also, there are OE piston rings made in Germany. Any good?? Rgds |

OE rings are made by Koblenschmidt OR Goetze. Both are good.
On many street engines I use Sealed Power "gapless" rings. But you will need to fit each top ring to the bore.

I have used deves rings before. They are pretty good. Total Seal is also good stuff.

IF your bores and used pistons are within limits-
Go Deves. I've used them on many different engines and had good results. For a freshly rebored engine, Totalseal piston rings might be a good option. I've found on a used bore with a new piston, while everything was within limits, they too many miles to seat-in perfectly. Nothing wrong with Goetz. Michael

Stock piston rings are fine for about 60k then they tend to lose their tension and blowby increases. I have rebuilt engines with both Deves and Total Seal Gapless and have had great results.
Tension is a bit higher than stock rings. Goetz or KS. I have some turbo engines with over 180k on the bore and still running strong with Total Seal Rings (and still with 2-3% leakdown). If you are rebuilding go with Deves on a stock motor and TS on a performance motor. Read the instructions carefully since bore preparation is the most important next to breaking the rings in. |

Speedtek, you know of any rings that would increase compression (Total Seal?) or any pistons that I could upgrade to, to get the most out of the engine??
After the Brabus head install and spirited driving, I found out yesterday that my #4 spark plugs are wet. So I figure one cylinder may have some blow by. Thanks man. |

Was the head rebuilt before installing? Pressure tested? Did you check the valve guides radial play, repalce seals, lap seats, etc. |

Yes, I got a Brabus head. The head was pressure tested, valve seats lapped, valve stem seals replaced. However, I did not replace the Valve Guides. Engine needs about 1 quart of oil every 1500miles. Rgds |
