My 190D 4 speed is a great city car, and has decent speed on the roadways out here, but I was wondering if there are any companies that carry different gear ratios for sale. I'd like to get the highway speed up around 140 to 150 km/hr at the same RPM I'm running now at 120km/hr.
It's either that, or I find out exactly how compatible Mercedes W201 chassis transmissions are, and put a 5 speed in there. I'd also like to stiffen up the suspension a tad. I like the ride I get currently, but I get a lot of body roll on hard cornering. I don't want an all out stiff as a board change, just a small tune to help it out a bit. Any info at all would be appreciated. krystal_blade@hotmail.com |

As for the gear ratio the lowest ratio in a U.S. car that will fit w/out much trouble would be from an automatic 190E 2.3.
Installing a 5-speed would require many other parts ie: driveshaft, crossmember, gearshifter & linkage. The best & least expensive springs would be from a Sportline W201 from 1992/93. Sport bilstein shocks would stiffen up the handling. ------------------ MERCEDES BENZ MASTER GUILD TECHNICIAN ASE MASTER TECHNICIAN 27 YEARS M.B. TECH |
